Innovation/Multi-Media Pollution Prevention Sample Clauses

Innovation/Multi-Media Pollution Prevention. In general, there is little opportunity for shifting of pollutants from one media to another in this project. This project is not aiming to reduce a specific media pollutant, which can in some cases carry with it a degree of risk that levels of other media pollutants might increase. It seems unlikely that overall driving levels will have been found to increase at the end of the study. There is some possibility that car owners who are involved in the program where only one vehicle is charged insurance by usage, will choose another household vehicle for some trips; the designers of the analytical study have a number of possible methods for dealing with this problem, depending on resource availability.

Innovation/Multi-Media Pollution Prevention. The basic premise of the proposed pilot project is innovation. The utilization of technology to accomplish the tasks which would otherwise require extensive demands from staff is a reflection of that innovation. Multiprobe remote water quality monitoring devices will be deployed in Pecan Creek to monitor baseline water quality and to assess the effects of storm events. UNT graduate students are developing “biosensors” which will detect changes in water quality which are potentially harmful to aquatic life. Electronic signals will be sent to automatic water samplers. These “smart” samples will be analyzed for identification of harmful contaminants. Additional indication of innovation is represented by the development by UNT of an EMPACT data access system which will provide to data accumulated by remote monitoring to citizens via City of websites and displays at the UNT EESAT Building. City of Xxxxxx addresses pollution prevention throughout the year with a variety of methods. The Utilities Division Communications staff disseminates information to customers in the form of utility bill stuffers, newspaper ads, and public service announcements on a local cable television channel. Twice each year the City of Xxxxxx coordinates a household hazardous waste collection day with Safety Kleen Corporation. The Pretreatment Program staff provides pollution prevention guidance to IUs and SQGs during facility inspections and when assistance with proper waste disposal and reduction is requested.
Innovation/Multi-Media Pollution Prevention. The integration of the pretreatment program with other environmental monitoring and management programs will allow more efficient use of resources while providing SEP. MSD will test several of the eighteen (18) recommended results-oriented measures for assessing performance of Pretreatment Programs developed by a special Association of Metropolitan Sewerage Agencies committee in 1994, under a cooperative agreement grant with EPA. See Appendix F. When appropriate, MSD will reinvest cost-savings into pollution prevention activities, including outreach, education, and technical assistance, first within the pretreatment program, then in other watershed based programs. MSD is working with the Kentucky Pollution Prevention Center for input in this area.

Innovation/Multi-Media Pollution Prevention. The proposal represents an attempt to enable and establish innovative management practices to deal rationally and safely with the problem of hazardous wastes that are generated at remote locations at which there is no "facility" where the wastes can be securely stored until arrangements for transportation and disposal can be made. With regard to multi-media pollution prevention, the wastes that this project deals with do not lend themselves easily to waste reduction/pollution prevention. Pipeline drips are generated by the natural condensation of petroleum and natural gas components "downstream" of pressure regulating stations. The generation of these drips is determined, therefore, by the pressure requirements of the distribution system. In the case of manhole and street vault wastes, these materials are generated primarily by runoff and infiltration, which are also caused, in part, by aging infrastructure.
Innovation/Multi-Media Pollution Prevention. Projects should embody a systematic approach to environmental protection that tests alternatives to several regulatory requirements and/or affects more than one environmental medium. The Imation Camarillo XL Project will test an approach for pre-approving NSPS and MACT modifications and new construction through the use of alternative operating scenarios, explore innovative reporting requirements, utilize a state-of-the-art 4 For example, see letters from American Lung Association (Xxxx Xxx), and Assemblyman Nao Takasugi - attached as Appendix G and Appendix H to Ventura County APCD Staff Report Re: Imation Project XL Covenant, dated 10/31/96; written comments from the Environmental Coalition submitted to the Imation Project XL Advisory Committee, dated 9/11/96; letters from Xxxxx Xxxxxx, Xxxxxxx & Xxxxxx (Xxxx Xxxx), and from Ventura County Economic Development Association (Mario de los Xxxxx) and statement of Xxxxxxx Xxxxxxx - Attached to Ventura County APCD Board Resolution Approving Covenant and Recommendations to Board by Xxxxxxx Xxxxxxx (APCO) Recommending Approval, dated 11/12/96. 5 See VCAPCD Resolution and APCO Recommendations, dated 11/12/96. monitoring approach, and implement an ISO 14001-style Environmental Management System (EMS). The project also highlights and promotes pollution prevention. Imation Camarillo will report, on at least an annual basis, results of pollution prevention measures taken at the facility, and the facility's Waste Ratio, as defined in this FPA. Imation Xxxxxxxxx'x EMS will document pollution prevention opportunities, pollution prevention goals, and ways to measure and meet those goals. Imation Camarillo intends to share pollution prevention successes it discovers with others in the industrial community, so that they may reduce pollution as well.
