Project XL definition

Project XL means the federal Project for eXcellence and Leadership or a federally approved facility- or community-based regulatory reinvention (XL) pilot project, as such are described in the Federal Register notices of May 23, 1995 (60 Fed. Reg. 27282) and November 1, 1995 (60 Fed. Reg. 55569).

Project XL stands for Excellence and Leadership. Project XL is a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) initiative to enable companies to achieve greater environmental progress by implementing innovative and more cost effective alternatives to existing regulations in the operation and expansion of existing and new facilities.
