Leave Due to Child Care Emergencies. ‌ A. A child care emergency is defined as a situation causing an employee's inability to report for or continue scheduled work because of emergency child care requirements such as unexpected absence of regular care provider, unexpected closure of the child's school, or unexpected need to pick up child at school earlier than normal. B. An employee who is unable to report for or remain at work due to a child care emergency may use vacation leave, sick leave, or leave without pay up to a maximum of three (3) days of each type of leave per calendar year. Use of any of the above leave categories is dependent upon the employee's eligibility to use such leave. The employee upon returning from such leave shall designate to which leave category the absence will be charged. C. In accordance with RCW 49.46.210, sick leave may be used when an employee’s child’s school or place of care has been closed by order of a public official for any health-related reason. Health-related reason means a serious public health concern that could result in bodily injury or exposure to an infectious agent, biological toxin, or hazardous material.
