Leave on Compassionate Grounds. (a) Illness - Immediate Family (i) This covers an absence from duty due to severe illness in the E.C.E.’s immediate family, of up to but not exceeding five (5) work days in one school year. When used herein immediate family shall include only father, mother, spouse, son, daughter, legal guardian, sister, brother, father-in-law and mother-in-law. (ii) In the event of a serious illness in the immediate family, an E.C.E. may be provided additional days with the approval of the Manager of Human Resources or designate. Such approval shall not be unreasonably withheld. (b) Bereavement - Immediate Family This covers an absence from duty due to a bereavement in the E.C.E.’s immediate family, of up to, but not exceeding five (5) work days on any one occasion. When used herein immediate family shall include father, mother, sister, brother, spouse, son, daughter, father-in-law, mother-in-law, grandparents, grandchildren, legal guardian, sister-in-law and brother-in- law. (c) Bereavement - Other This covers an absence from duty for one (1) work day for attendance at the funeral of a family member not listed in (a) or (b) above, or close friend, with permission of the Principal. (d) Paternity Leave This covers absence from duty of an E.C.E. of up to, but not exceeding two
