Common use of Leave Without Pay for the Care and Nurturing of Pre-School Age Children Clause in Contracts

Leave Without Pay for the Care and Nurturing of Pre-School Age Children. Subject to operational requirements, an employee shall be granted leave without pay for the care and nurturing of the employee's pre-school age children in accordance with the following conditions: (a) an employee shall notify the Company in writing ten (10) weeks in advance of the commencement date of such leave; (b) leave granted under this clause shall be for a minimum period of nine (9) consecutive weeks; (c) the total leave granted under this clause shall not exceed five (5) years during an employee's total period of employment in NAV CANADA, and in the case of designated employees during an employee’s total period of service in the Public Service and with NAV CANADA; (d) leave which is for a period of more than three (3) months granted under this clause, shall be deducted from the calculation of “continuous employment” for the purpose of calculating severance pay and vacation leave; and (e) time spent on such leave shall not be counted for pay increment purposes.
