Limits on Sick Leave Accruals. Sick leave for eligible employees accumulates from the most recent date of regular employment with the City until claimed and used. Accrued, unused paid sick leave balances of one thousand four hundred and forty hours (1,440) or less will be carried over to the following year. Accrued, unused paid sick leave balances over 1,440 hours will be forfeited on January 1 of each year. An employee who is reinstated as a regular employee following layoff or separation (within twelve (12) months in the case of separation) will be entitled to reinstatement of their earned and accrued sick leave credit as of the effective date of the layoff, excluding any hours that were paid out at layoff or separation.
