Common use of Meal/Rest Period Clause in Contracts

Meal/Rest Period. Except as provided in Section 9.1(d), all employees shall receive an unpaid meal period of one-half (½) hour. Employees required by supervision to work during this meal period shall be compensated for such work at the appropriate rate of pay. All employees shall be allowed the equivalent of two (2) paid rest periods of fifteen (15) minutes each during each shift of eight (8) hours or more in duration. Employees working twelve (12) hour shifts will receive the equivalent of three fifteen (15) minute paid breaks. Breaks may be taken intermittently and will be administered in accordance with applicable law including the Washington Administrative Code. It is not the intention of the parties to change the current practice of allowing employees a total of fifteen (15) minutes for a rest break.
