12.5.1 The Ministry provides mediation services which may include: • information about rights and obligations. • information about services. • assistance in resolving problems; and • fixing new terms of employment.
Mediation Services. If we are unable to resolve the problem, then either party can contact the Department of Labour Mediation Service (a government department) for free assistance. The mediator will try to help us resolve the problem, but won’t make a decision as to who is right or wrong unless both parties want this.

Mediation Services. If the problem continues employees have the right to access the Mediation Service. The mediators are employed by the Employment Relations Service as one of a range of free services to help people to resolve employment relationship problems quickly and effectively. The mediators will help the parties decide on the process that is most likely to resolve problems as quickly and fairly as possible. Employees can ask their union organiser/delegate to provide assistance in accessing this service. Alternatively, the Mediation Service can be contacted on 0800 800 863.

Mediation Services. 28.3.1 If you are not satisfied with your employer’s response, then you can contact the Employment Relations Service Te Ratonga Hononga Taimahi for free mediation assistance. The mediator will try to help the parties resolve the problem, but will not make a decision about what should be done to resolve the problem unless you and the employer agree to this.
28.3.2 If the problem referred to the Employment Relations Service is a dispute about the interpretation, application or operation of this Collective Agreement, you must ensure that the RMTU is given notice of the dispute.

Mediation Services. Each member is entitled to one (1) initial thirty minute office or telephone consultation per separate legal matter at no cost with a participating mediator. In the event that the member wishes to retain a participating mediator after the initial consultation, they will be provided with a preferred rate reduction of 25% from the mediator’s normal hourly rate. Typical matters may include divorce and child custody, contractual and consumer disputes, real estate and landlord tenant, car accidents and insurance disputes.
