Military Duty Leave. An Officer who is called for and serves temporary military duty or who enlists or is otherwise ordered or called to active duty in the armed forces of the United States, or the National Guard, if he/she has completed one (1) full year of active classified service with the District and/or in recognized military service, be entitled to a military leave without loss of compensation for up to the first thirty (30) calendar days of necessary absence from duty as ordered provided that such leave shall be applicable each calendar year due to temporary military service. The applicable state laws can be found at Military & Veterans Codes 389 et seq. (M&V Code). The applicable federal law is the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Right Act (USERRA) and can be found at 38 U.S.C. at 301 et seq.
