Number of Holidays. There shall be twelve (12) holidays and these holidays are set out as follows: New Year's Day Canada Day Remembrance Day Good Friday Civic Holiday Christmas Day Easter Monday Labour Day Boxing Day Queen's Birthday Thanksgiving Day Family Day Should the Hospital be required to observe an additional paid holiday as a result of legislation, it is understood that one of the existing holidays recognized by the Hospital shall be established as the legislated holiday after discussion with the Union, so that the Hospital’s 's obligation to provide the number of paid holidays as noted above remains unchanged. Employees’ preferences will be carefully considered before posting of schedules, providing there is no delay in stating the preference. If any of the above-named holidays occurs on an employee’s regular day off or during his vacation period, the employee will receive an additional day off or payment for holiday in lieu thereof, but the additional day shall not be added to the period of vacation of the employee unless with the consent of the Head of the Department.
