The plan provides that payments in respect of guaranteed annual remuneration or in respect of deferred remuneration or severance pay benefits are not reduced or increased by payments received under the plan. Leave of absence, without pay, for the purposes of further education directly related to the nurse's employment with the Hospital may be granted on written application by the nurse to the Director of Nursing or her designate. Requests for such leave will not be unreasonably denied. The regular part-time nurse shall be entitled to leave of absence without loss of earnings from her regularly scheduled working hours for the purpose of writing any examinations required in any course in which nurses are enrolled to 'upgrade their nursing qualifications. Leave of absence without loss of regular earnings from regularly scheduled hours for the purpose of attending short courses, workshops or seminars directly related to the nurse's employment at the hospital may be granted at the discretion of the Hospital upon written application by the nurse to the Director of Nursing or her designate. Professional leave with pay will be granted to regular part-time nurses who are elected to the College of Nurses to attend regularly scheduled meetings of the College of Nurses. (d) An employee shall reconfirm his or her intention to return to work on the date originally approved in subsection (b) above by written notification received by the Hospital at least two (2) weeks in advance thereof.
(e) Credits for service and seniority shall accumulate for a period of up to eighteen (18) weeks while an employee is on parental leave on the basis of what the employees normal regular hours of work would have been.
(f) The nurse Hospital will continue to pay its share of the contributions of the pension plan in which the employee is participating, for a period of 18 weeks while the employee is on parental leave.
(g) Subject to any changes to the employee's status which would have occurred had he or she not been on parental leave, the employee shall be reinstated to his or her or his former positionduties, unless that position has been discontinuedon the same shift in the same department, in which case and at the nurse shall be given a comparable job. Nurses newly hired to replace nurses who are on approved parental leave may be released and such release shall not be the subject same rate of a grievance or arbitration.
