Public Health Significance. The results from this study illustrate that psychosocial interventions designed for chronic disease management can be successfully implemented in populations living with lymphatic filariasis. Additionally, this study demonstrates the acceptability and feasibility of using an integrated chronic disease and mental health care model to address NTD morbidity management in a low-resource setting – particularly in contexts where there are existing social support groups that can be used as a dissemination mechanism. Given the great mental, social, and economic consequences of LF and similar infections, morbidity management and disability prevention programs should assess how evidence-based, chronic disease management strategies can be adapted to address the psychosocial burden of NTDs. Future studies may improve our understanding of the effect of the CDSM program on mental well-being among this population by including larger samples of people living with LF and other NTDs. Additionally, conducting CDSM trials in other low-income countries can assess if the intervention can be disseminated in diverse populations and communities. Finally, further research into reliable mental health interventions in the context of NTD care and morbidity management is needed in order to support national, regional, and global NTD elimination and eradication goals.
