Regression Analyses Sample Clauses

Regression Analyses.Β The results of model one suggest that, controlling for demographics, there were no significant statistical relationships between the sports-specific factors and alcohol- related behaviors among the entire study sample including males and females (Table 5). The results of model two (Table 5) suggest that, controlling for demographics, participants who took part in varsity sports (B = 0.95, 95% CI = 0.48, 1.42, p < 0.001) reported significantly higher levels of perceived peer drinking than those who took part in sports at the freshman/other levels. Furthermore, participants who took part in both sports offering team-level and sports offering individual-level competition also reported significantly higher levels of perceived peer drinking, compared to those only taking part in sports offering individual-level competition (Table 5; B = 0.92, 95% CI 0.04, 1.80, p = 0.04). The results of model three (Table 5) indicate that, controlling for demographics and sports-specific factors, perceived peer drinking was significantly associated with the total alcohol-related behaviors (B = 0.30, 95% CI 0.24, 0.37, p < 0.001). Similarly, model four (Table 5) suggests that, among males, when controlling for other demographic characteristics and sports-specific factors, perceived peer drinking was significantly associated with total alcohol-related behaviors (B = 0.33, 95% CI 0.26, 0.40, p < 0.001). Model five (Table 5) indicates that, among females, while perceived peer drinking was significantly associated with reported alcohol-related behaviors (B = 0.17, 95% CI 0.03, 0.32, p = 0.02), overall the model was not statistically significant (F [9.76] = 1.13, p = 0.36). Similar to model one, in models three, four, and five, none of the sports-specific factors assessed was significantly associated with alcohol-related behaviors, even after taking into account perceived peer drinking in addition to demographic characteristics (Table 5).

Regression Analyses.Β There are three regression equations in this study. Each of them has a different dependent variable as mentioned above, while they all have similar list of independent variables. The basic structure of the regressions is as follows. π‘Œ = 𝛽0 + πœ·πŸπ·π‘’π‘šπ‘œ + πœ·πŸπΈπ‘šπ‘π‘™π‘œπ‘¦ + πœ·πŸ‘π‘†π‘œπ‘π‘–π‘Žπ‘™ + πœ·πŸ’πΆπ‘œπ‘šπ‘šπ‘’π‘›π‘–π‘‘π‘¦ + πœ·πŸ“πΌπ‘›π‘‘π‘’π‘ π‘‘π‘Ÿπ‘¦ + πœ·πŸ”πΌπ‘›π‘πΏπ‘’π‘£π‘’π‘™ + πœ·πŸ•π‘ƒπ‘Ÿπ‘œπ‘£π‘–π‘›π‘π‘’ + πœ€ On the left-hand side, Y represents the dependent variable of interest. In the first main regression, Y = GS / Inc, where GS stands for monetary value of all the gifts sent out from a household and Inc stands for total income as described previously. In the second main regression, Y = GR / Inc, where GR represents the monetary value of all the gifts received by a household. In the third main regression, Y = GS / GR. On the right-hand side, each πœ·π’Š is a vector of coefficients corresponding to a set of independent variables. More specifically, Demo represents six demographic variables: three dummy variables related to family size: smallfamily, regularfamily, and largefamily, age, education level in years, and another dummy variable: with communist party membership or not. Employ represents two dummy variables related to employment: whether there is at least one person employed in the household or not and whether there is at least one person employed as an administrative/managerial position or not. Social represents three variables related to the degree of household involvement in social activities: number of relative families and number of friends that visited the household this spring festival, and in the last month that was not a vacation, number of hours per day the household spent on social activities on average. Social activities include talking or chatting with friends, visiting relatives and friends, entertaining guests, reading and writing personal letters, and so on; having face-to-face conversation, making phone calls, sending text messages, online chatting (e.g., QQ, MSN), and sending and receiving emails; participating or organizing all kinds of ceremonies and parties, such as weddings, funerals and so on. Note that having dinner with friends is also considered as social activities rather than pure eating activities. Community represents three community level variables: the area of the community, the population size of the community, whether it is a rural village or an urban residential community, and income range within community capturing income inequality...
