– Senior Teacher Allowance a) A Senior Teacher is a teacher designated to exercise the responsibility of the Principal in the absence of the Principal and the Vice-Principal, if there is a Vice-Principal. The Senior Teacher shall be paid a daily allowance for each day the Senior Teacher is required to exercise the responsibility of the Principal in the absence of the Principal and the Vice-Principal, if there is a Vice-Principal. The daily allowance shall be prorated for a partial day. i. The daily allowance for the Senior Teacher for the school year 2004- 2005 shall be $50. ii. The daily allowance for the Senior Teacher commencing for the school year 2005-2006 shall be $100. b) The position of Senior Teacher shall be posted at the beginning of each school year and the Principal shall consider any applications submitted. The Senior Teacher shall be selected by the Principal not later than the first Friday following Labour Day, and the selection shall be effective for the current school year. Before making the appointment, the Principal shall have received the approval of the Board to appoint the Senior Teacher. c) The Senior Teacher will remain a member of the bargaining unit for the period he or she is a Senior Teacher and will retain all rights and privileges accorded under the terms of the collective agreement. d) The Senior Teacher shall not participate in the evaluation or disciplining of teachers, including occasional teachers. e) Where the Principal and the Vice-Principal, if there is a Vice-Principal, are both absent due to illness or Board authorized leave, an occasional teacher will be called in to cover the Senior Teacher’s class commencing with the first day of the Principal’s and Vice-Principal’s absence.

– Senior Teacher Allowance. (a) The Teacher designated to exercise the responsibility of the Principal in the absence of the Principal and the Vice-Principal, if there is a Vice-Principal, shall be paid an annual allowance as follows: Effective September 1, 2008 – $1530 Effective September 1, 2009 – $1561 Effective September 1, 2010 – $1607 Effective September 1, 2011 – $1655 (b) The Senior Teacher shall be selected by the Principal not later than the first Friday following Labour Day, and the selection shall be effective for the current school year. The Principal shall submit a recommendation to the Board for approval at the first Board meeting in September before making the appointment and shall have subsequently received the written confidential consent of the Teacher to be appointed as Senior Teacher. No teacher shall be appointed without his or her consent. The Board will ensure that there is a posting and competitive/objective selection process prior to issuing approval for appointment (c) The Senior Teacher will remain a member of the bargaining unit for the period he or she is a Senior Teacher and will retain all rights and privileges accorded under the terms of the collective agreement.   • Education Allowance Provisions in existing Collective Agreements providing for educational allowances shall be continued in effect.
