Common use of Shift Rates Clause in Contracts

Shift Rates. (a) Employees engaged on shift work whilst on afternoon or night shifts except on a Saturday, Sunday or Public holidays, shall be paid 15 per cent more than the ordinary rate for such shifts, except for employees covered by subclause (b) hereof. (b) An employee who is required to work: (i) during a period of engagement on night shift only; or (ii) on night shift for a longer period than four consecutive weeks; or (iii) on a night shift which does not rotate or alternate with another shift or with day work so as to give at least one third of time off night shift in each three shift cycle; shall, during such engagement, period or cycle, be paid 30 per cent in addition to the ordinary rate for all time worked during ordinary working hours. (c) Non-continuous shift workers shall, for work performed between midnight on Friday and the ordinary ceasing time on Saturday, be paid at the minimum rate of time and a half. (d) The minimum rate to be paid to continuous shift workers for work performed: (i) between midnight Friday and midnight Saturday, shall be time and a half. (Note: See subclauses 13(f) and (g) of this Agreement as to work on Sundays and holidays). (ii) For the purpose of subclauses (c) and (d) hereof, a shift starting at 11.00 p.m. shall be deemed to commence at midnight. (iii) Employees engaged on continuous shift work which does not continue for at least three months shall be paid an additional loading of ten cents for each shift worked on the continuous work roster and shall receive their proportion of annual leave prescribed by subclauses 17(a) and (m) of this Agreement.

Shift Rates. (a) Employees engaged on continuous work shifts, as defined in clause 2, Definitions, of this award, shall in addition to their ordinary rate, be paid per shift work whilst an amount equal to 15 per cent of one-fifth of the weekly wage for MP-3 in Appendix A, Wage Rates - Adults, of this award, when working on afternoon or night shifts except on a Saturday, Sunday or Public holidays, shall be paid 15 per cent more than the ordinary rate for such shifts, except for employees covered by subclause (b) hereof. (b) Employees, not engaged on continuous work shifts, working on afternoon or night shift, as defined in the said clause 2 of this award, shall in addition to their ordinary rate be paid per shift an amount equal to 15 per cent of one-fifth of the weekly wage for MP-3. (c) The additional shift rates fixed in subclauses (a) and (b) of this clause shall be calculated to the nearest cent with any fraction of a cent in the result less than half a cent being disregarded. (d) Employees working shifts shall, for work performed between midnight on Friday and the ordinary ceasing time on Saturday, be paid at the minimum rate of time and one-half. (e) An employee who is required to work:work - (i) during a period of engagement on shift, on night shift only; or (ii) on night shift for a longer period than four consecutive weeks; or (iii) on a night shift which does not rotate or alternate with another shift or with day work so as to give him/her at least one one-third of his/her time off night shift in each three shift cycle; , shall, during such engagement, engagement period or cycle, be paid at the rate of 30 per cent in addition additional to the his/her ordinary rate for all time worked during ordinary working hours. (c) Non-continuous shift workers shall, for work performed between midnight on Friday and the ordinary ceasing time on Saturday, be paid at the minimum rate of time and a half. (d) The minimum rate to be paid to continuous shift workers for work performed: (i) between midnight Friday and midnight Saturday, shall be time and a half.
