Shift Selection by Seniority. On September 1st of each year, the Chief of Police or designee shall cause to be posted a notice directing the employees to select their shift preference, task force, special, and other assignments shall be exempted from this b id process. Employees shall have through September 30th in which to set forth their individual shift preferences. No later than October 15th of that year, shift assignments shall be granted on the basis of seniority, with the most senior employee being granted the first s e l e c t i o n , the next senior employee being granted the second selection, and so on until all of the shift assignments have been completed. Each employee shall make four (4) shift selections based upon preference: 1st choice, 2nd choice, 3rd choice, 4th choice, from the available shift assignments. Assignments are then to be made from this list, giving the most senior employee his/her 1st choice, the next assignment being given to the next senior employee and so on, until all of the assignments have been filled. Thereafter, if a shift becomes vacant during the year, the vacant shift, shall be filled by utilizing the September selection record, giving the vacant assignment to the most senior employee who earlier requested the same assignment. The Chief retains the right, in their discretion, to temporarily assign personnel irrespective of seniority, in order to accommodate operational needs such as for training, personnel shortages and emergencies. In the event the Employer elects to adjust an employee’s shift selection, reassignment shall occur first by volunteer. Of the volunteers, the employee with the most seniority shall be reassigned. If there are no volunteers, the employee with the least seniority shall be reassigned. Probationary employees may be assigned to any shift. Return from Task Force, Special, or Other Assignments. Employees transferred back to patrol duties from a special assignment which is not subject to shift selection shall not displace another employee from their previously granted shift selection regardless of the seniority status of the involved employees without mutual agreement of the affected employee(s).

Shift Selection by Seniority a The Company shall allow employees in each classification to select (where such choice exists) a scheduled shift as described in and subject to Article 12.01
Shift Selection by Seniority. Based on the operational needs of the Departments, AFSCME agrees to support shift scheduling by seniority within the longevity pool whereby after two consecutive rotations the unit members (within their department, division, or unit as appropriate) by seniority, will select another shift. Following two (2) consecutive rotations, unit members may, for one additional shift, elect to enter into a personal trade for shift scheduling. Thereafter, following three (3) consecutive rotations, unit members who wish to enter into trades to remain on a particular shift must have the advanced approval of the unit member’s department or division Supervisor. Unit members who have not been placed in the longevity pool may not trade shifts. Any shift trade may be rejected for substantial performance reasons, which shall be communicated in writing to the affected employee. The departments will post shift assignments for sign-up thirty (30) days prior to the shift with assignments to be finalized ten (10) days prior to the shift starting. Unit members not selecting shifts within the sign-up period will have shifts assigned by the unit member's department or division Supervisor. Shift rotation will be based on four (4) month tours: January-April, May-August, September- December or other rotations as assigned.
