Common use of Sick/Carer’s Leave Clause in Contracts

Sick/Carer’s Leave. Employees are entitled to 10 days per annum in sick/carers leave, consistent with the Australian Pay and Fair Conditions (AFPC) standard. This will accrue on pro-rata basis each pay period. Assuming no use of Sick/Carers leave, the Employee would have 10 days accrued after 12 completed months of service from commencement/anniversary date. Unused days will accrue, to be available in situations of longer term needs (for example to ‘fund’ the first 90 days before the income protection insurance benefit becomes payable). Additional, unpaid carer’s leave of up to 2 days will be made available where the Employee has utilised their full entitlement of carers leave under the AFPC standard. An Employee unable to attend work on a particular day for sick/xxxxx’s reasons must advise their supervisor as soon as possible – preferably prior to, and no later than 2 hours after, their scheduled commencement of work. Multiple day absences must be supported by a doctor’s certificate (or suitable alternative). For single day absences, Employees may be requested by the Company to provide appropriate documentary support.
