TEACHING HOURS AND TEACHING LOAD. A. The parties agree that teachers are to commence and terminate the school day in accordance with the following schedule: Commence twenty (20) minutes prior to pupil hours. Teachers participating in extra-curricular activities during the regular school day and beyond the school day shall be compensated according to the currently existing negotiated guide. O. Elementary school teachers may be required to participate in evening parent conferences up to a maximum of two (2) evenings per school year during the Fall conference schedule. Such meetings shall not exceed the allotted time frame of daytime conferences. On days that evening conferences are scheduled, the teacher shall be dismissed fifteen (15) minutes following the student half-day dismissal. P. K-8 students will be released after the required minimum school day the last three (3) days of the school year in order to permit teachers (K-8) time for the necessary end-of-the-year reporting. Q. The days of final exams at the High School, at the end of the school year, will be half days for all high school teachers. R. When necessary in the teachers by judgment of the Administration during this duty-free lunch periodadministrator, preparation time may be used for purposes other than preparation.
I. E. Teachers may will be required to remain after the end of the regular work day provided with three (3) one-half (1/2) days for the purpose of attending faculty curriculum development, committee work, and inter-grade communication. At the conclusion of the session, each teacher will complete an evaluation of the session.
F. Special curriculum projects and summer IEP’s may be established by administration and recommended to the Board of Education for approval. Said studies and projects are limited to those tasks which:
a) are begun but cannot be completed during the school day as defined in this agreement,
b) result in a written proposal or other professional meetings three (3report and/or an in service day presentation, and
c) days do not occur as an integral part of one’s duties for which compensation is already being received via a contracted salary guide. Teachers who are assigned to complete special curriculum projects and summer IEP’s will be compensated at $22.00 per hour. Staff members will be notified of special assignments in writing. Assignment notification for a project will include:
a) a description of the project,
b) the length of time necessary to complete,
c) the method of determining successful completion, and
d) the date the assignment is to be completed. A staff member who accepts a special assignment and the conditions will notify administration in writing. The Superintendent of Schools shall authorize remuneration upon completion of the project in accordance with the criteria listed above. Vouchers and reports must be submitted to the Superintendent two weeks prior to the regular scheduled Board meeting in order to receive payment during that month.
G. Homebound instruction shall be compensated at $25.00 per hour. Vouchers and time sheets must be submitted to the School Board Secretary by the 15th and/or 30th of each month. H. The Board, through the Superintendent of Schools, may solicit the suggestions and recommendations concerning the school calendar from interested groups. In the event there are no later than ten snow or emergency closings, the teachers will only be required to work a maximum of one hundred and eighty four (10184) minutes after days.

TEACHING HOURS AND TEACHING LOAD. A. The Committee agrees to maintain favorable work loads for all teachers. The Committee and the Association authorize departures from what may be considered normal class size for educational purposes. In the best interest of the educational process, relative equality of work load will be maintained.
B. Teachers will have a dutyfree lunch period of at least the length of a student lunch period.
C. Each secondary teacher shall be given, in addition to his/her dutyfree lunch period, a 3 x 3 assignment, or equivalent, with a guaranteed prep period equal to the length of a long block class. In some cases, the prep period may be divided between two periods totaling the length of the long block.
1. Each elementary school teacher shall be given, in addition to a dutyfree lunch period of at least twenty (20) minutes, one (1) period per day for inschool preparation. These periods will be when music, art, library, computer and physical education special subject teachers are assuming classroom responsibilities.
2. Elementary teachers shall not be assigned to perform lunch duty.
3. Recess duty will occur not more than once every seven (7) school days in year one of this contract (20072008), and not more than once every eight (8) school days in year two of this contract (20082009). In the third year of this contract (20092010), recess duty shall not be assigned to any elementary teacher except as provided by paragraph (b) below.
(a) A short term substitute will perform recess duty for the grade level to which s/he is assigned.
(b) In the event that no one is available for recess duty, elementary teachers may be assigned by the Principal and grade level Team Leader to perform recess duty, provided that the teacher so assigned shall receive eight dollars ($8.00) for each recess duty assigned.
E. No teacher shall be asked to substitute for another except in case of an emergency. An emergency is understood to be not more than one (1) day in duration. After one such substitution in a year, a teacher who volunteers to cover a class period, will be compensated at a rate of $13.00 per period or $25.00 per long block.
F. No teacher will be required to cover the class of a coach or club advisor when he/she is required to leave for an activity that begins before the end of the regular school day.
G. Whenever possible, the Committee agrees to place all anticipated events scheduled outside the regular school hours and requiring teacher attendance on the official school calendar by September.
H. No less than once each semester, the Committee will provide for halfday sessions in order that the staff may participate in curriculum planning and development, in service training, and professional development. The halfday sessions shall generally be three hours in length and are to be scheduled by the principal. The parties agree that teachers are such sessions may be scheduled to commence conclude up to 4:00 P.M. and terminate that at least one week’s notice shall be given of the school scheduled time. By specific agreement between the Superintendent and the President of the Association, such sessions may be scheduled to conclude after 4:00 P.M.
