I. Teachers may leave their buildings without requesting permission during their scheduled duty-free lunch periods provided that they sign out and in on appropriate forms in the main office of their respective buildings.

Early shift Teachers in the high school who work periods 1 through 8 shall (when required to remain at school until after the 9th period for 2023attendance at faculty meetings, departmental meetings, special services meetings, committee meetings and/or in-2026service meetings to be attended not only by the said Teachers, but also by late shift Teachers in the high school who work periods 2 through 9) be paid $16.06. M. Beginning 2003-04, elementary school Teachers (grades K–5) shall be paid afforded one (1) early release day in the fall term which shall be for the purpose of providing additional preparation time. (Refer to Article XXIII D. Professional Development).
N. Additional preparation time for elementary classroom Teachers (grades K-5) shall be afforded four (4) times per year, one (l) hour each marking period.
O. Each traveling Teacher shall only be required to attend meetings at the building which has been designated as his/her home-base. Traveling teachers shall have a duty free lunch of at least forty (40) minutes continuous duration; 1 prep period; and 15 minutes travel time between worksites.
P. Traveling Teachers shall be declared elementary, intermediate or high school Teachers for the purposes of scheduling.
Q. All requests for absence will be submitted to their assignments the time necessary Building Principal for faculty meetings or the Director or Chairperson (as applicable) for departmental meetings in advance (three (3) days in advance whenever possible). Final approval for faculty meetings will be given by the Building Principal, and final approval for departmental meetings will be given by the Director or Chairperson (as applicable). The association will be given a reasonable opportunity to meet their responsibilities. (f) Absent teachers will be responsible for all information presented at faculty meetings and departmental meeting. If a teacher or Principal (for faculty meetings) or Director/Chairperson (as applicable) for departmental meetings, believes clarification is necessary, a meeting between the parties will be held as soon as possible.
3. The length of the workday for teachers shall not exceed six (6) hours and forty-five (45) minutes (inclusive of Paragraph 4 below). Effective September 1, 2000 and thereafter, the length of the teacher workday shall be 7 hours.
4. Elementary teachers will be in their classrooms ten (10) minutes before the start of the student day and ten (10) minutes after the students are dismissed, providing any other students that have not been picked up are reported by name to the bus-duty teacher who must stay until the last student is picked up. Arrival time shall not apply to teachers assigned to A.M. duty. Secondary teachers shall be in their classrooms before and after school at times designated by the Building Principal and within the teacher workday.
5. A teacher may be assigned forty-five (45) minutes a day of duty, averaged throughout the school year, but in no event more than sixty (60) minutes in any one day. Assignments shall be equitably distributed among teachers in each school building as needed. In the event a kindergarten teacher teaches for a period of two (2) hours and thirty-five (35) minutes or more in any one session, that teacher will be entitled to at least a twenty (20) minute break. TEACHING HOURS AND TEACHING LOAD. A. As professionalsThe length of the teaching day shall be 7 hours.
B. All secondary teachers shall have a duty-free lunch period daily equal to one regular class period. Elementary teachers shall have a duty-free lunch period of 40 minutes daily. Notwithstanding this provision and Paragraph F, a shortened period bell schedule can exist at the high school for assembly purposes provided that the high school lunch period shall be no less than 35 minutes on assembly days. All secondary school teachers shall have at least one regular class period of preparation time each school day during which time they shall not be assigned to other duties except in emergency. All elementary teachers in grades 1 to 6 will be provided with a daily preparation period of at least forty (40) minutes during the time the pupils are in school except as provided for in Section C of this Article. D. In the event that teacher aides are employed in the elementary schools by the Board of Education, they will assist in classroom work and in the library at the option of the teacher involved. If the teacher exercises such option, the teacher aide shall be under his/her direction, supervision and control. The classroom assignment of teacher aides in any building shall be the subject of consultation and discussion with the building committee of that building. Teacher Aides are not to be interpreted as Case Aides. A Case Aide is an individual assigned as a result of a decision of the Committee on Special Education. E. If possible, teachers are expected shall meet their classes in a single, designated classroom and shall not have classes scheduled in other rooms.
F. The standard teaching load of secondary subjects (grades 7-12) shall be five (5) class teaching periods. 5.2 Teachers may leave school at the regular student dismissal times on Fridays and the day preceding a holiday or vacation. In addition, teachers may leave school at the regular student dismissal time on days when teachers are required to return to school in the evening pursuant to paragraph 5.7 of this Article. Educators participating in the Advisory Program at the High School may leave at the end of the regular two block exam schedule, on each of the four (4) days during Final Week, unless they must administer any final examinations that extend beyond that time such as make-up exams, and unless they must complete any remaining professional responsibilities such as attending IEP meetings.
5.3 Personnel other than classroom teachers will work at their assigned tasks for at least the length of the regular teacher's workday. It is recognized, however, that the proper performance of their duties may, on occasion, require these persons to work longer than the normal working day. 5.6 Teachers may be required to designate any oneremain after the end of the regular pupil day without additional compensation for up to one (1) hour to attend the following:
(a) Staff meetings -
