Common use of UNION MEMBERSHIP DUES DEDUCTIONS Clause in Contracts

UNION MEMBERSHIP DUES DEDUCTIONS. Section 4.1 The City agrees to deduct from the wages of each Union member, upon the written request of the employee to the Union Secretary Treasurer of Teamsters Local 14, and subsequently forwarded to the City, the sum certified as monthly union dues and/or initiation fees. If any controversy arises on account of such deductions that the Union failed to notify the City to discontinue, the Union will furnish, at no expense to the City, competent legal counsel of the City’s choosing and the Union agrees to indemnify, save and hold the City harmless from any and all expenses, costs, or liability incurred by the City which arises out of or is otherwise directly related to such controversy. Section 4.2 Such funds shall be remitted by the City to the Secretary-Treasurer of the Union within fifteen (15) days after such deductions are made. The employee’s authorization for deduction of Union dues and/or fees is revocable subject to the conditions outlined on the check- off authorization or upon termination of employment. Section 4.3 The City will not be required to honor any monthly deduction authorizations that are delivered to the payroll section after the beginning of the pay period during which the deductions should start. Section 4.4 The Union agrees to refund to the City any monies paid to it in error on account of the payroll deduction provisions herein upon presentation of proper evidence thereof.
