Uses of Sick Leave. A. Sick leave shall be granted to an employee only upon approval of the Employer Sheriff and for the following reasons:reasons:-
X. Xxxxxxx 1. Illness or injury of the employee or a member of his immediate family. (In the case of a member of the immediate family not living in the same household, the appointing authority may credit sick leave when he believes it is justified, but such cases will be carefully investigated).
2. The death of a member of his immediate family shall be limited to three (when 3) days, except that in event of the death of an employee’s aunt or uncle, an mployee shall be granted the day of the funeral off, without pay for the purpose of attending the funeral. Employees shall not utilize accrued sick leave to attend the funeral of an aunt or uncle but may use accrued compensation time.
3. Medical, dental or optical examination or treatment of an employee or a member of his/her immediate family, which requires the employee’s absence , and which cannot be scheduled during non-working hours.
4. If a member of the immediate family is required as afflicted with a primary caregiver)contagious disease or requires the care and attendance of the employee or when through exposure to a contagious disease the presence of the employee at his/her job would jeopardize the health of others.
5. Pregnancy and/or childbirth, and other conditions related thereto.

One “significant other” may be designated by the employee stands in and may be approved by the place Executive Director as “immediate family”' for the purpose of parents (loco parentis). If the illness or injury is life threatening, the employee's brother, sister, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, mother-in-law and father-in-law shall be included in the definition of immediate family for this section. Life threatening illness or injury shall “Significant other,” as used herein, is intended to refer to an individual who stands in lieu of a spouse. Said request for designation may be defined made to the Director no more than once in a calendar year; the designation must be in effect at least thirty (30) calendar days in advance of any request for leave as an injury that could reasonably cause death set forth herein.

Up to three (3) days of sick leave may be advanced to a new employee who incurs a death in the immediate family and has accrued insufficient sick leave to cover the absence. Should the employee has legal guardianship or other person leave the service of the Employer prior to whom repaying the employee stands in full amount of sick leave advanced, the place of parents (in loco parentis);outstanding time will be reconciled and deducted from the employee's last pay.
