If an employer elects to provide paid medical leave to an eligible employee pursuant to this subsection, the employer is not required to allow the eligible employee to carry over any of that paid medical leave to another benefit year.(4) Paid medical leave as provided in this section shall begin to accrue on the effective date of this law, or upon commencement of the employee's employment, whichever is later.
Paid medical leave of up to two (2) weeks is available per semester.
Paid medical leave is defined as those in which the employee has sufficient PTO or ELB to maintain regular full-time or benefit eligible part- time status or those periods in which the employee is receiving short term disability benefits from the employer.

Paid medical leave shall be granted for illness or injury to an employee’s dependent child, adult children, spouse, sibling, parent, grandparent, stepparent or grandchild.
Paid medical leave shall only be used for personal medical needs, including illness, doctor appointments, medical treatments, pregnancy and childbirth, as well as for medical care of an ill or injured child, spouse/domestic partner (of same and/or opposite sex), parent or close family member.
Paid medical leave may be extended by two weeks if the employee experiences a serious health 36 condition with a pregnancy that results in incapacity.
