Per Diem Nurse definition

Per Diem Nurse is a nurse who is not regularly scheduled, but is required to be available to the Hospital for at least three (3) scheduled open shifts per month and one (1) recognized holiday per year.
Per Diem Nurse is used in this Agreement it shall mean a Nurse hired to work one of the tiers set forth in the Tiered Per Diem Compensation System, or hired according to a prior Per Diem agreement. Per Diem Nurses are eligible for fringe benefits under this Agreement only to the extent expressly provided for in this Agreement and subject to the Nurse satisfying all of the qualifications therefore.

The hospital shall utilize per diem nurses 22 to maintain adequate staffing levels during periods of high patient census, 23 vacations, illness, and accommodating regular nurseswork schedules. Nurses who do not meet departmental availability 27 obligations for a period of three (3) months may be terminated.
