As needed definition

As needed means there is soil to be removed. Soil may need to be removed several times a day, weekly, monthly, or yearly. When soil is detected, whether by the Contractor, site personnel, or EPS management, it should be removed expeditiously. Also, though others can and will detect soil loads, it falls to the Contractor to detect and clean the majority of time and not wait for others to report them. For example, “replace plastic liners – as needed.” Many times, liners can be used several times if all that is put in them is paper, before they are thrown away. However, when food and drink are deposit- ed in them or they get holes or tears, they become breeding grounds for germs or accidents waiting to happen. “As needed” has an implied urgency about it; not the opposite. When the need is observed, it probably has been ignored too long. “Spot mop/thoroughly clean hard surfaces as needed.” Spot mopping is fine for minor spills or tracking and sometimes when equipment is out for repair, but long‐term, thorough cleaning is needed regularly to remove soil and to protect surfaces.

Turn off all lights other than those used for security and night lighting and the following electrical equipment only when observed and only at the switch: fans, air conditioners, heaters, Christmas lights, coffee pots and radios.
