Permissive service credit means credit for a period of service recognized by the governmental plan only if the employee voluntarily contributes to the plan an amount (as determined by the plan) that does not exceed the amount necessary to fund the benefit attributable to the period of service and that is in addition to the regular employee contributions, if any, under the plan.
Permissive service credit" means credit that will be recognized by the system for pur- poses of calculating a member’s benefit, for which the member did not previously receive ser- vice credit in the system, and for which the member voluntarily contributes to the system the amount required by the system, not in excess of the amount necessary to fund the benefit at- tributable to such service.
