South African National Parks (SANParks) is a public entity functioning under National Environmental Management: Protected Areas Act 57 of 2003 (Act 57 of 2003); with the mandate to conserve; protect; control; and manage national parks and other defined protected areas and their biological diversity (Biodiversity).
Both the National Environmental Management (NEMA): Protected Areas Act, 57/2003 and National Veld Forest Fire Act are very clear on the penalties (fines, imprisonment or both) and/or disciplinary action which may be imposed on persons who are found guilty of not complying with the laws stipulated.

SANParks is a juristic person established in terms of section 5 of the National Parks Act, No. 57 of 1976 and continuing to exist as such in terms of section 54 of the Protected Areas Act.
