By Xxxxxxx Xxxxx. If I led my community, there are a few things I would want to do, starting with making our small community more like a community. When you look up the definition of commu- nity it says, a group of people living in the same place or hav- ing a partic- actually is, so I would like to make our community more like a commu- nity. The first thing I would do to accomplish this goal is to make a program that would connect kids to the elderly. The program would be between students at the Xxxxxx Community School and the Xxxxxx Senior Center and may later expand to include people who live outside the senior center. The stu- dents would match with the senior citizens to do activities that would benefit both child and senior. This program would help the elderly feel less isolated from their community. would be located in town owned land. The garden would be operated by the volunteers which would form a club. All the produce would go to the school, senior citizens home, and to the homeless shelter. This, I think, would bring the community together because, different volun- teers would meet each other and form relationships. To further enhance the sense of community, I would want to cre- ate more trails in the town owned xxxxx and make all the existing trails handicap accessible, so that people with physical challenges would feel more accepted and be anything to do. So I would like to make winter outdoor activities like, ice skating, sledding, cross country skiing, snow building contest, sled dog races, snowshoeing, and more. Also if it is too cold to play outside I would want to have a place to go where kids can play games inside. This would make kids meet new friends and give them a chance to blow off energy. One final thing I would want to do is make the school library open to the community. This would give people a chance to get books locally. It would also encourage the com- munity to read, and people could ular char- acteristic in It would also benefit the kids, be- cause it would give them an oppor- able to see and experience the Maine outdoors like everyone else later form book clubs. It would also expand the variety of books in the common. Or a feeling of fellowship with others, as a result of sharing common attitudes, interests, and goals.
