Light Duty Knowing that the best teacher to have in their classroom is the assigned teacher, we have agreed to the following new provision which would allow for the return from a disability leave resulting from a workers compensation claim provided medical approval and agreement by the district. Light Duty Consider adding the following language to the contract: A teacher who has experienced an injury covered by workers compensation will not be required to perform light duty that is not part of his or her job description and is not certificated work or that would violate medical restrictions. The teacher will be placed in the assignment he or she was in when injured unless such a placement is not possible or is not in the best interests of the students or the teacher. Before a teacher is placed in any other assignment, a meeting will be held with the teacher and representatives from the ETA and HR to discuss reasons for not returning the teacher to his or her original assignment and to determine the most appropriate alternative assignment.
