CONSERVATION OBJECTIVE. As the Xxxxxx House revitalization will be part of a proposed larger development, it will be relocated approximately 15 feet to the west and 5 feet to the south due to greater site planning issues such as road widening allowances. However, the house will remain a prominent corner landmark – enhanced by street improvements of the new development – and continue in its historic street-facing orientation. Part of the heritage retention incentive is to convert the house into two residential units, one on each level. The Standards and Guidelines for the Conservation of Historic Places in Canada (Parks Canada, 2nd ed.) defines three primary treatments to inform the conservation decision-making process: Preservation: The action or process of protecting, maintaining and/or stabilizing the existing materials, form and integrity of an historic place or of an individual component, while protecting its heritage value.
