Death in Immediate Family. Leave of absence with pay because of death in the immediate family of a regularly scheduled person in the County service may be granted by the Agency/Department Head for a period not to exceed three days. Except for employees in the classification of Juvenile Institutional Officer Intermittent, an additional two days leave may be granted by the Agency/Department Head and charged to the employee's accrued sick leave balance in the event that one-way travel in excess of 300 road miles from the employee's residence is required. Entitlement to leave of absence under this Section shall be only for all hours the employee would have been scheduled to work for those days granted, and, insofar as the first three days are concerned, shall be in addition to any other entitlement for sick leave, emergency leave, or any other leave. For purposes of this Section, "immediately family" means mother, step-mother, father, step- father, husband, wife, domestic partner (as defined in Appendix B), son, step-son, daughter, step-daughter, brother, sister, mother-in-law, father-in-law, xxxxxx parent, xxxxxx child, grandparent, grandchild or any other person sharing the relationship of in loco parentis; and, when living in the household of the employee, a brother-in-law, and sister-in- law. In the case of the death of the employee’s mother-in-law, father-in-law, grandparents, or grandchildren, where the decedent was not living in the employee’s household, the employee shall be entitled to one day of leave of absence with pay. An additional two days leave may be granted by the Agency/Department Head and charged to the employee's accrued sick leave balance in the event that one-way travel in excess of 300 road miles from the employee's residence is required.
