TEMPORARY LEAVES OF ABSENCE. A. Teachers will be entitled to the following temporary leaves of absence with full pay each school year:

TEMPORARY LEAVES OF ABSENCE. 16.1 At the beginning of every school year:
A. Each non-tenured teacher shall be credited with two (2) days to be used for the teacher's personal business.
B. Tenured teachers shall be credited with three (3) days to be used for the teacher’s personal business.
C. Tenured teachers who have completed twenty (20) or more years of experience in Xxxxxxx County Public Schools (CCPS) shall be credited with four (4) days to be used for the teacher’s personal business.
D. Teachers who have completed twenty-seven (27) or more years of experience earned in CCPS shall be credited with an additional personal day to be used for the teacher’s personal business each year.
E. A teacher planning to use a personal business day shall notify the principal in advance. No reason for the request shall be required and leave shall not be denied unless a substantial number of teachers in the same school have previously elected and been pre-approved for leave this same day. In the event that prior notification is not possible, the Superintendent or designee may require proof that an emergency situation existed.
F. If unused, these days shall be added to sick leave.
G. Requests for personal leave for days preceding or following a school vacation or holiday may not be approved.
16.2 For teachers with ten (10) or more years of experience with CCPS, unused personal leave shall be cumulative up to six (6) days; unused days thereafter shall be converted to cumulative sick leave. Teachers may not request more than 5 consecutive personal leave days during the instructional year.
16.3 Tenured teachers with ten (10) or more years of experience earned in CCPS shall be allowed to convert one day of sick leave, per school year, to be used as personal leave when all personal leave has been exhausted.
16.4 In the event of an emergency a teacher may request of the Superintendent or a designee that up to two (2) days of accrued sick leave may be used. An emergency shall refer to an unforeseen occurrence or combination of circumstances which calls for immediate action or remedy.
16.5 A. Teachers shall be granted leave with pay for jury duty. A teacher called for jury duty shall receive his/her regular salary provided appropriate documentation from the courts is submitted to the employee’s supervisor.
TEMPORARY LEAVES OF ABSENCE. Administrators shall be entitled to the following temporary leaves of absence, with pay, each school year:
TEMPORARY LEAVES OF ABSENCE. Provisions have been made by the Board of Education for absence from duty of professional employees as follows:
A. General Provisions
1. Temporary Leave will be divided into two (2) categories; accumulative and non-accumulative.
2. Professional employees are allowed ten (10) full working days per year, with full pay, as current Temporary Leave; these days will be added to the professional employee’s temporary leave bank on the day the employee actually reports for duty. Professional employees with an extended contract totaling two hundred (200) or more working days will be entitled to one additional day of Temporary Leave. These days will be prorated if the professional employee does not complete the full term of his/her contract on active status. Part-time employees shall accrue temporary leave on a prorated basis.
3. Professional employees employed on a part-time basis shall be entitled to all temporary leaves of absences specified in this Article; provided, however, these days shall be in accordance with their prorated contractual time and compensation. For the purpose of this paragraph only, a temporary leave day shall be that portion of the day worked by the part-time professional employee.
4. Professional employees shall be allowed to accumulate to their credit any unused portion of their accumulated temporary leave. Starting in fiscal year 2008-09, Accumulative Temporary Leave will be segregated between leave accrued prior to July 1, 2008 and after July 1, 2008. Cumulative leave balances can be accessed on the district web site. Requests for Temporary Leave with salary deduction for reasons of personal convenience, interviewing for other positions, or for vacation trips will be presented to the building principal/administrator for approval or disapproval.
5. If the total of accumulative leave is depleted, pay for absences shall be deducted at the daily rate of pay as computed in accord with the terms of the contract of the individual professional employee.
6. It shall be understood that non-accumulative temporary leave shall not be deducted from accumulative leave unless otherwise stated.
7. Holidays occurring within the period that a professional employee is absent shall not be charged against Temporary Leave.

TEMPORARY LEAVES OF ABSENCE. Professional employees will be granted the following temporary leaves of absence with pay during each school year upon written application to and with approval of the principal.
1. Personal leave shall be available to all certified employees. Personal leave will be granted to employees at four (4) days per year. Personal leave may be accumulated up to eight (8) days per employee. Once an employee has accumulated up to eight (8) he/she may use those days, at the discretion of the administration in one year. No more than three (3) personal days per year may be turned in for cash refund, at the rate of the current certified substitute teacher pay to the district. At retirement, only three (3) days of the current year may be cashed in. Payment will be made in the June pay check.
2. The employee will receive two (2) days of professional leave for the purpose of attending educational meetings, workshops or conventions, or visiting other schools. More may be allowed at the Superintendent’s discretion.
3. Employees who must appear in legal proceedings connected with their employment with the District may be absent without loss of pay for that cause, except that in legal proceedings resulting from teachers being on strike against the District in which case 1/190th of the contract amount shall be forfeited for each day absent.
TEMPORARY LEAVES OF ABSENCE. A. General
1. Teachers shall be granted temporary leaves of absence without loss of pay for the following reasons and upon the following terms and conditions. Normally, a temporary leave request form for absence, must be submitted to the Principal at least 24-hours in advance. If advance notice is impossible, the teacher shall submit a temporary leave request form upon return:
a. For bereavement purposes in the event of a death in the immediate family of the teacher, or a person living within the teacher’s household, a period not in excess of five (5) school days. Any one or more said days may be used to attend the internment and related services. In the event of a death outside the immediate family, leave may, but need not be granted, at the discretion of the Superintendent. The aforementioned leave need not be taken consecutively but is to be used within thirty (30) days immediately following the date of death except where internment is delayed. Under unique circumstances, the Superintendent may but need not approve the extension of the taking of bereavement days beyond the thirty (30) day period.
b. Personal Days - For reasons personal to the teacher which cannot be performed outside of the "work day." Said leave shall not cumulatively exceed three (3) days in any one work year and shall not be used as additional vacation, extension of holidays, or as time off for the convenience of a teacher when other arrangements may be made. Exceptions may be made at the discretion of the Superintendent. Teachers may but need not provide reasons for leave taken under this Section but shall abide by the standard outlined. Unused personal days at the end of each fiscal year shall be added to accumulated medical leave under Article IX hereof to be used for the purposes of illness only as provided in Article IX, paragraph F, and may not be used for personal or other non-illness leave. The Association and Committee shall work cooperatively to achieve a better understanding by teachers of what is and is not permitted under this Section. The Committee or designee gives up its right to challenge an individual teacher's use of leave under this Section unless the day(s) requested precedes or follows a vacation or occur at the beginning or end of the school year. TEMPORARY LEAVES OF ABSENCE. Any full-time and part-time scheduled employee who anticipates the necessity for taking a temporary leave of absence shall make proper application and notify his/her immediate supervisor as soon as possible. All leaves granted under the provisions of this Article will be in appropriate units of full days or half days. All leaves described in this Article are available to full-time and part-time scheduled employees only.
TEMPORARY LEAVES OF ABSENCE. A. Teachers shall be entitled to the following temporary leaves of absence with full pay each school year:
1. Each ten-month, eleven-month and twelve-month teacher shall be credited annually with three (3) days to be used for personal leave. Teachers shall notify the immediate supervisor in writing of intent to use such leave. In case of emergency, when such prior notice cannot be given, the Superintendent may require evidence that an emergency existed. Teachers may take personal leave in increments of one hour, half day or full day. Teachers intending to use leave in hourly increments shall submit a request at least 36 hours in advance, in writing, to the immediate supervisor. In case of emergency, when such prior notice cannot be given, the Superintendent or designee may require evidence that an emergency existed. Upon request, a teacher may receive accommodation to use (1) additional day of paid leave for religious observance not covered by the school calendar.
2. Unused personal days may be accumulated to a maximum of ten (10) days. Unused leave in excess of ten (10) days shall be credited to accumulated sick leave
3. Except when approved by the immediate supervisor, personal leave shall not be used the day before or after a holiday or scheduled break, or on an in-service day or parent conference day, or at the beginning of the school year or during the last two (2) days of the ten-month teachers’ work year. Consideration will be given to the overall impact to the educational program and delivery of services prior to granting approval. Specifically, the supervisor or designee shall also take into consideration the following: • The availability of substitutes. • How many requests from that particular individual in the past, and whether this request represents an emergency when the individual has been approved for the exception in the past. Denial of such requests may be appealed to the Director of Human Resources or designee.
4. Time necessary for jury duty.
5. Time necessary for appearances in any legal proceedings connected with employment or with a subpoena for a criminal case in which the employee is a witness.
