Common use of Discretionary Leave Clause in Contracts

Discretionary Leave. Any employee desiring leave of absence without pay shall secure approval from the Employer. Approval of any leave without pay for five or more days shall be obtained in writing from the supervisor. The maximum leave of absence shall not exceed six months and may be extended at the discretion of the Employer, total not to exceed one calendar year. As a general policy, unless other arrangements are approved, annual leave or sick leave, if applicable, must have been exhausted before leave without pay may be taken.
