English Department. The Instructor may apply for any Courses offered in the non-Intensive and Intensive programs, if she or he has been recognized as qualified for one or any of the programs. She or he completes the application form by indicating: 1) the maximum number of hours she or he wishes to teach. For the Summer session, she or he indicates if she or he wishes to teach the entire session or a half session. In this case, she or he specifies which half session (the first five (5) weeks or the last five (5) weeks); 2) the programs for which she or he wishes to apply, in decreasing order of preference, in order to complete, if necessary, her or his maximum Course load; 3) the order of preference for all levels of Courses in each of the programs in which she or he has applied. A level not selected on the preference form of an Instructor will not be assigned; 4) the desire to teach with a Union officer and, if such is her or his wish, that this request supersedes the desired levels requested.

EVALUATION OF PART-TIME INSTRUCTORS DURING THE PROBATION PERIOD During the probation period, Part-time Instructors shall receive the aid and pedagogical support of a teacher consultant in the preparation and delivery of their courses. The Teacher Consultant must provide evaluations of Part-time Instructors on probation. Moreover, Part-time Instructors may be observed by the Department Administrator and the Teacher Consultant. A Part-time Instructor on probation applies for and is assigned courses in accordance with the procedure provided for in Article on the condition that she or he has not received any negative evaluations, in conformity with the criteria provided for in Articles and For each session during the probation period, the Department Administrator shall evaluate the Part-time Instructor using the Teacher Consultant’s report and the Instructor’s course evaluation results. At the beginning of the probation period, the Part- time Instructor must be informed of the requirements and criteria used for her or his evaluation. The Part-time Instructor is considered to have satisfied the requirements of the probation period if she or he received positive evaluations during the probation period. The Part-time Instructor is said to have successfully completed probation at the end of the last session of the probation period or, exceptionally, at the end of the first five weeks of the summer session in the case of the Intensive English program. If, during the first session of the probation period, the Part-time Instructor obtains a negative evaluation in accordance with the provisions of Article she or he shall not be granted a contract in the following session. Within ten (10) business days from his/her receipt of the decision resulting from the previous level, the employee may appeal to the Department Head using the original copy of the grievance. B. Within ten (10) business days from the receipt of the employee's grievance, the Department Head or his/her designated representative who has not been involved in the grievance in prior levels shall make a thorough review of the grievance, meet with the parties involved and give a written decision and the reasons therefore to the employee and the Union representative. However, the Department Head or designate is not limited to denying a grievance for the reasons stated at any previous level in the procedure. Upon request, a copy of the decision will be given to the Union representative. C. If the Department Head or his/her designated representative fails to give a decision within the specified time limit, the Union shall have the option of referring a grievance alleging a violation of the negotiated agreement between the parties to arbitration. D. On matters that are not subject to arbitration pursuant to Section 8 hereafter, the written decision of the Department Head or his/her designated representative shall be final.

  • Department Heads Department heads shall normally be tenured and hold the rank of Associate Professor or Professor in one of the departments to be served, unless mutually agreed to by the departmental faculty and administration. 3.1.2.1 When it becomes known that a department head position will become vacant, or if the department head position has already become vacant, or if a new department is created, the xxxx of the college shall meet with the department faculty within two (2) weeks to discuss qualifications and expectations for the position. When the department faculty is able to find more than one (1) acceptable candidate, the department may rank order its list of acceptable candidates and give reasons for its ranking. If the department is able to find only one (1) acceptable candidate, it shall recommend that candidate. If the department faculty does not find an acceptable candidate, the search will be ended. The xxxx will review the departmental recommendation(s) with the PVPAA. If the department’s recommendation(s) is approved by the PVPAA, the PVPAA shall recommend the appointment of the candidate to the President of the University. If the University does not accept the recommended candidate(s), the University has the right to declare the search process has ended. 3.1.2.3 In the event a department head position is not filled in a timely fashion through the preceding procedures, the Board may appoint a department head for a period not to exceed one (1) year.
