Forms of Leave Parental leave. 2.1 This should be a separate provision from either maternity or paternity leave, and should provide an untransferable individual right to at least thirteen weeks leave, in accordance with regulations, but with local discretion to agree an earlier date, following the birth or adoption of a child. This leave should be taken before the child reaches the age of fourteen (up to age eighteen in case of adoption).
