Jumping to conclusions general intelligence, and psychosis liability: findings from the multi-centre EU-GEI case-control study 46
AutoNDA by SimpleDocs
Jumping to conclusions. Jumping to conclusions (JTC) is a well-established reasoning and data gathering bias found in patients with psychosis (X. Xxxxxx et al., 2013; P. A. Xxxxxx & Xxxxxxx, 2013; So et al., 2016), which it is expressed in the tendency to require less information to make decisions and to make xxxxx decisions.
Jumping to conclusions beyond cognitive component of delusions Preliminary work in this field focused primarily on the association with delusions, although jumping to conclusions has been also found in non-deluded schizophrenia patients and after remission, in people at high risk of developing psychosis, and in first-degree relatives (Broome et al., 2007; Xxxxxx & Xxxxxxxx, 2005; Xxxxx et al., 2014; Xxx Xxxx et al., 2006). In the general population, the JTC bias has been found in around 20% of people, who display higher levels of delusional ideation, conviction in paranoid ideas, proneness to hallucinations and experiences of perceptual anomalies compared to individuals who are “not jumpers” (Xxxxxxx et al., 2008; Xxxx et al., 2015). Higher prevalence of jumping to conclusions bias has been also reported in First Episode Psychosis (FEP) (Xxxxxxx et al., 2015; X. Xxxxxx et al., 2011; X. Xxxxxx Xxxxxxx et al., 2015; Xxxxxx et al., 2012). Furthermore, studies on FEP revealed the tendency to make xxxxx decisions as relatively independent of symptomatology; although Xxxxxxx (M. Xxxxxx Xxxxxxx et al., 2015) found a significant difference in delusion severity between JTC groups and non-JTC; however this finding held only for the easy version of the beads task (85:15), not for the hard one (60:40).
