Long-Term Leaves of Absence. The Division Director may grant a leave of absence without pay, not covered by any other provision of this Agreement, for nonmedical reasons for a period longer than 30 days. Requests for leaves of absence without pay that are for medical/health reasons for a period longer than 30 days must be approved by the Director of Human Resources or the Director’s designee. Long-term leaves may be unconditional, or conditional with any conditions set forth in writing at the time that the leave is approved with the understanding that barring required budget cuts or layoffs, the employer shall reinstate the employee to the same position or a position with equivalent status, pay, benefits and other employment terms upon the employee’s return with no loss of seniority. The layoff, seniority, and bumping rights in each individual Appendix shall be applied to leaves of absence.
