MEAL PERIODS AND REST BREAKS. (a) The employer undertakes to stress to operational managers the need for staff to be able to take an adequate meal break during their working day, and their responsibility to ensure that this happens to the best of their ability. (b) Casual staff are entitled to meal breaks and payments for such breaks as apply equally to permanent staff. (c) Except when required for urgent or emergency work and except as provided in (d) below, no employee shall be required to work for more than five (5) hours continuously without being allowed a meal break of a minimum of half an hour. (d) An employee unable to be relieved from work for a meal break shall be allowed half an hour to have a meal on duty and this period shall be regarded as working time. (e) Except where provided for in (d) above, an employee unable to take a meal after five hours duty shall be paid at time-half rate (t½) in addition to normal salary from the expiry of five (5) hours until the time when a meal can be taken. (f) Rest breaks of ten (10) minutes each for morning tea, afternoon tea or supper, where these occur during duty, shall be allowed as time worked. (g) During the meal break or rest breaks prescribed above, free tea, coffee, milk and sugar shall be supplied by the employer. Where it is impractical to supply tea, coffee, milk and sugar free of charge, a weekly allowance in lieu shall be paid of $1.

(c) Except when required for urgent or emergency work work, and except as provided in (db) below, below no employee shall be required to work for more than five (5) hours continuously without being allowed a meal break of a minimum of not less than half an hour.
(db) An employee unable to be relieved from work for a meal break shall be allowed half an hour to have a meal on duty and this period shall be regarded as working time.
(ec) Except where provided for in (db) above, an employee unable to take a meal after five hours hours' duty shall be paid as a penalty payment at time-time half rate (t½T0.5) in addition to normal salary from the expiry of five (5) hours until the time when a meal can be taken.
(fd) Rest breaks of ten (10) 10 minutes each for morning tea, afternoon tea or supper, where these occur during duty, shall be allowed as time worked.
(g) . During the meal break or rest breaks prescribed above, free tea, coffee, boiling water, milk and sugar shall be supplied by the employer. Where it is impractical to supply tea, coffee, milk and sugar free of charge, a weekly an allowance of $1.31 per week in lieu shall be paid paid. This allowance shall continue during all periods of $1leave except leave without pay.
