Unpaid Meal Periods. 4 Meal periods are on unpaid time unless the provisions of 5 “Subsection 3” below apply.
Unpaid Meal Periods a. Except as provided in Section 2, immediately below, employees working more than five (5) consecutive hours will be entitled to an unpaid meal period of thirty (30) or sixty (60) minutes, as designated by the University. Unless otherwise agreed between the employee and their supervisor, meal periods will be scheduled as close to the middle of the work shift as practicable.
b. The University will make every effort to provide employees with an uninterrupted meal period. If an employee’s unpaid meal period is interrupted by work duties, the employee will be allowed to resume their unpaid meal period following the interruption, if possible, to complete the unpaid meal period. In the event an employee is unable to complete the unpaid meal period due to operational necessity, the remainder of the employee’s meal period will be considered time worked.
c. When an employee is required in writing to keep their pager, cell phone or radio on and will be required to respond or return to work, the employee will be compensated at the standby rate of pay.
d. Normally, unpaid meal periods may not be taken at the beginning or end of a scheduled shift to permit late arrival or early departure from work except as approved in “e” immediately below.
e. Meal periods may be waived upon written agreement between the employee and the supervisor.
Unpaid Meal Periods. Unpaid meal periods for employees working more than five (5) consecutive hours will be a minimum of thirty (30) minutes and will be scheduled as close to the middle of the work shift as possible. Employees working three (3) or more hours longer than a normal workday will be allowed an additional thirty (30) minute unpaid meal period.

Unpaid Meal Periods. The Employer and the Union agree to unpaid meal periods that vary from and supersede the unpaid meal period requirements required by WAC 000-000-000. Unpaid meal periods for employees working more than five (5) consecutive hours, if entitled, will be a minimum of thirty (30) minutes and will be scheduled as close to the middle of the work shift as possible, taking into account the Employer’s work requirements and the employee’s wishes. Employees working three (3) or more hours longer than a normal workday will be allowed an additional thirty (30) minute unpaid meal period. When an employee’s unpaid meal period is interrupted by work duties, the employee will be allowed to resume their unpaid meal period following the interruption, if possible, to complete the unpaid meal period. In the event an employee is unable to complete the unpaid meal period due to operational necessity, the employee will be entitled to compensation, which will be computed based on the actual number of minutes worked within the unpaid meal period. Meal periods may not be used for late arrival or early departure from work and meal and rest periods will not be combined.

a. Length of the meal period: Employees will be scheduled for a thirty (30)-minute meal period unless they request and management approves a one (1)-hour meal period. Management may rescind approval for a one (1)-hour meal period, subject to the provisions for changing work schedules in “Section 1“ above.
Unpaid Meal Periods. Except where paid meal periods are in effect, employees shall receive an unencumbered meal period of thirty (30) minutes or more. It is recognized that unpaid meal periods are times in which employees are entirely free of duty in connection with their jobs. The appropriate supervisor may require an employee to change their normal meal period if the employee's work assignment requires the employee's constant attention or availability on the job. If it is necessary to require a change in the meal period, the appropriate supervisor will normally reschedule the non-paid meal period within a period one (1) hour prior to or one (1) hour after the regular scheduled meal period. In the event the appropriate supervisor requires the employee to forego the meal period, the time worked by the employee in excess of eight (8) hours in a day shall be considered overtime.
Unpaid Meal Periods. A. One-half hour as near to twelve noon as emergency conditions permit.
B. Those employees who work on a scheduled project which begins after their normal evening meal hour shall not receive any evening meal compensation.

37 b. Scheduling: The meal period for employees working eight (8) or more hours 38 will be scheduled in the middle of the work day whenever practicable. When a one (1)-hour meal period is 39 requested and approved, management will make adjustments to the employee’s starting and/or quitting time, 40 subject to the provisions for changing work schedules in “Section 1” above. 41
