Common use of New Hire Clause in Contracts

New Hire. The probationary period for newly hired employees within the bargaining unit shall be one (1) year of paid service. Newly hired employees who are reclassified during their initial probationary period will be required to complete an additional year of probation in their new classification. At the discretion of the District General Manager, the probationary period for a newly hired employee may be extended for up to six (6) months, if circumstances warrant, by giving notice to the employee fifteen (15) work days before the scheduled completion date of the normal probationary period. During the probationary period or any extension thereof, an employee may be dismissed and the employee shall not have the right to a hearing with respect thereto.
