Non-Life Threatening Emergencies. Problems which usually do not require the immediate attention (i.e., within a few hours) of a physician and usually do not proceed to a life-threatening situation refer to the following first aid guidelines. Use discretion with each situation. If necessary, notify parent/guardian. Transportation is the responsibility of the parent/guardian.
Non-Life Threatening Emergencies. If a patient has a non-threatening emergency such as angina, dizziness, syncope, the patient’s cardiologist will be notified and, if indicated, 911 will be notified. • If the patient’s physician is not available, the Hospital Cardiac rehab Medical Director will be notified. • In case the Center Staff is unable to notify the above physicians, the Covering Physician onsite will serve as the third backup for telephone consultation.
Non-Life Threatening Emergencies. A wheel chair will be located in the referee’s room for use in non-life threatening emergency procedures. Ice can be used from staff room. Baggies will be available in first aid kits. PROCEDURES DURING OFFICE HOURS POTENTIAL LIFE THREATENING In the event of a potential life-threatening emergency, the First Responder to the accident will ensure Office Staff is immediately contacted. If direct radio or cell phone contact is not possible, then a Bystander Report Back System will be used to ensure Ambulance has been called. Office Staff will contact 911 and then advise Lifeguards of emergency by dialing pool deck line. Once Lifeguards have been advised of emergency, Office will contact second Maintenance personnel to assist Lifeguard with immediate pool clearing procedures. *In the event the Office Staff is unable to contact Maintenance for pool clearing procedures, staff will close the office, if and when necessary, and assist Lifeguard in clearing the pool. One Lifeguard will respond to the emergency with the first responder bag and blanket. The remaining Lifeguard will clear the pool and lock gates. When all patrons have been removed from the pool, the remaining Lifeguard will bring oxygen and respond to the emergency, assisting the first guard in patient care. When Lifeguards are dealing with suspected head, neck or back injuries, they are responsible for immobilizing and stabilizing the patient where found. Maintenance will assist Lifeguards by clearing any public from the emergency area that are not directly involved with the patient or patients’ care. Maintenance will wait for Ambulance at arriving exit and assist with equipment. Non-slip shoes should be provided for ice surface safety. First Responder Procedures After the patient has been released to Ambulance care and removed from the premises, the First Responder and Lifeguard attending to patient will fill out an accident report as soon as possible prior to the end of shift. All accident reports are to be left in the appropriate manager’s box. Office staff should contact the appropriate manager after the Ambulance has left the building, for notification of the emergency. Debriefing shall be made available to employees following critical responses. Non-Life Threatening Emergencies. Patients experiencing a “nonlife- threatening emergency” (as defined by patient-assessment protocols approved by the Medical Director) shall be transported to the facility of choice designated by the patient, the patient's family, or the patient's personal physician, or if no such preference is stated, to the nearest hospital approved by the Medical Director for receipt of patients experiencing non-life-threatening emergencies.
