Common use of Orientations Clause in Contracts

Orientations. Sixty (60) days prior to the start of each academic year, the University will provide the Union with the names and umich emails of contact persons responsible for scheduling each appointing unit’s first new Employee training session or its first meeting including new employees. Each semester, upon request of the Union, each appointing unit will make forty-five (45) minutes available to the Union. The units should endeavor to schedule this forty-five (45) minutes during a break in the first new employee training session or its first meeting. If the unit is unable to accommodate scheduling during a break, then the union would have the ability to decide whether it is scheduled before or immediately after the meeting. The union’s orientation will not be required to start before 8 am or after 7:30 pm. Written notification of the Union presentation shall be included on the agenda of the department training or meeting. The agenda, along with names of GSIs/GSSAs and University emails of expected participants, shall be shared with the Union at least two business days prior to the meeting, conditional upon timely request by the Union. The union presentation will be scheduled in the same room, if possible, or with directions to the new room in the same building. The new room shall have adequate capacity to accommodate all Employees present at the Employee training session or first meeting of new Employees. For appointing units that use an asynchronous, remote training module, including the asynchronous CRLT module, for their orientations, they will provide the Union, upon request, a list of names of new GSIs/GSSA in their unit.
