Period of Sabbatical Sample Clauses

Period of Sabbatical. The period of sabbatical leave may be either one half of the individual's work year at full salary or the whole year at half salary, except that non instructional staff shall not have the option of taking a whole year of leave at half salary. For personnel whose College responsibilities make a continuous leave of absence of as long as half a year impractical, an adjustment of the period may be made on the joint recommendation of the staff member and their supervisor, and is subject to the approval of the Cabinet. Eligible staff may be asked to time their sabbaticals in accordance with program/unit needs and the ability of the College to finance sabbaticals. However, the College is responsible for planning for and providing coverage so that a staff member is enabled to take their sabbatical leave. The College may require a non-instructional staff member to defer their sabbatical when required by the needs of the College. The College may, at its option, pay non-instructional staff in lieu of the staff member taking sabbatical leave, and that staff member's sabbatical leave for that period would be exhausted, but the staff member would then be eligible for future sabbatical leave as set forth herein. During sabbatical leave a staff member may not work for the College, with the exception of teaching one 3-credit course each semester, or upon specific approval by the Chief Operating Officer.
