Period of Service definition

Period of Service means the aggregate of all periods of service commencing with an Employee's first day of employment or reemployment with the Employer or an Affiliated Employer and ending on the first day of a Period of Severance, or for benefit accrual purposes, ending on the severance from service date. The first day of employment or reemployment is the first day the Employee performs an Hour of Service. An Employee who incurs a Period of Severance of twelve (12) months or less will also receive service-spanning credit by treating any such period as a Period of Service for purposes of eligibility and vesting (but not benefit accrual). For purposes of benefit accrual, a Participant's whole year Periods of Service is equal to the sum of all full and partial periods of service, whether or not such service is continuous or contiguous, expressed in the number of whole years represented by such sum. For this purpose, fractional periods of a year will be expressed in terms of days.

The first day of employment or reemployment is the first day the Employee performs an Hour of Service. An Employee will also receive partial credit for any Period of Severance of less than 12 consecutive months. Fractional periods of a year will be expressed in terms of days.
Period of Service means the continuous period of the Participant’s Employment up to the Termination Date, and also includes any prior period of Employment separated by: (i) any break in Employment as a result of a leave of absence authorized by the Company or by law; and (ii) any break in Employment not authorized by the Company or by law lasting twelve (12) months or less.

Examples of Period of Service in a sentence

  • Where a school proposes to make one or more positions redundant the employer shall make redundancy payments to those employees made redundant as follows: Period of Service Weeks of Severance Pay Less than 1 year Nil One year and less than two years 4 weeks Two years and less than three years 6 weeks Three years and less than four years 7 weeks Four years and above 2 weeks per year of service to a maximum of 16 weeks.

  • The term “Retirement” means a Termination (other than a Termination when grounds existed for a Termination for Cause at the time thereof) initiated by the Participant that occurs on or after the date on which the sum of the Participant’s age and Period of Service (calculated in months) equals sixty-five (65) years, so long as the Participant is at least fifty-five (55) years old and provides at least six (6) months’ notice of his or her intention to retire.

  • The period between the first and second anniversaries of said first day of absence from work is neither a Period of Service for which the Employee will receive credit nor is such period a Break in Service.

  • Upon expiry of the Minimum Period of Service, the Services will automatically continue based on our prevailing rates without any notice to you, until terminated in accordance with these Service Specific Terms and Conditions.

  • The period between the first and second anniversaries of the first date of a maternity or paternity leave is not part of either a Period of Service or a Break in Service.


More Definitions of Period of Service

Period of Service means a period of employment with an Affiliated Employer which commences on the day on which an Employee performs his initial Hour of Service or performs his initial Hour of Service upon returning to the employ of an Affiliated Employer, whichever is applicable, and ends on the date the Employee Severs Service.
Period of Service means a period beginning on the Associate's Employment Commencement Date (or Reemployment Commencement Date, as the case may be) and ending on his Severance from Service Date.
