Responsibilities of VUCMS. The VUCMS group will reimburse ACCRE for the costs of the purchased computing hardware from the funds provided by the US DOE-NP for the Tier-2 project. ACCRE management agree to follow standard budget accounting practices for all of these purchases, submitting statements to the Department of Physics and Astronomy financial services group on a regular basis. As described in the PMAP, the VUCMS group will reimburse ACCRE for operating expenses needed to support the Tier-2 in the amount of 1.5 FTE per year, using funds from the Tier-2 project. The VUCMS group will be responsible for future reprocessing passes of the heavy ion data at the Tier-2 as needed by the experiment, as well as being a host for the analysis jobs on the reconstructed data. Additionally the VUCMS group will distribute data production samples to other Tier-2 and Tier-3 computing facilities in accordance with standard CMS collaboration data operations procedures. The VUCMS group agrees to work with ACCRE management on a best effort basis to solve any operational problems of the Tier-2 regarding the CMS software framework and including file transfers between Fermilab and ACCRE. The VUCMS group agrees that the central CMS computing group will monitor the operations of the Tier-2 in order to ascertain and improve the quality of its performance. Regular review reports on how well the Vanderbilt Tier-2 is achieving its mission goals will be obtained by the VUCMS group, as described in the PMAP.

Responsibilities of VUCMS. VUCMS will be responsible for future reprocessing passes of the heavy ion data as needed by the experiment, as well as being a host for the analysis jobs on the reconstructed data. Additionally VUCMS will distribute data production samples to other Tier-2 and Tier-3 computing facilities in accordance with standard CMS collaboration data operations procedures. The projected volumes of these heavy ion data files, as well has other data production files from the analyses of the heavy ion data, have been estimated in PMAP document. Based on these projections, tape archival capacity is being planned at Fermilab and an estimate for the costs of hosting heavy ion data in the USCMS storage facilities at Fermilab have been mutually agreed by USCMS and VUCMS. VUCMS will reimburse USCMS for these costs, including the cost of tape media, on an annual basis. VUCMS will engage the services of the external network group at Vanderbilt University as needed in order to work cooperatively with USCMS to insure that the data transfers between Fermilab and Vanderbilt are completed successfully.
