Failure to complete the specific purposes of the Sabbatical, the reports to the President, and the oral report for the Board within the following semester may result in requiring the faculty member to reimburse the College for the compensation received during the Sabbatical Leave. 3. Individuals on Sabbatical Leave will receive all rights and privileges of faculty. These rights and privileges include full fringe benefits and normal progression on the salary schedule. If the proposal requires administrative commitment (e.g., large expenditures, new programs, etc.), support from the appropriate administrator must accompany the proposal. 4. Realistic possibility for completion of stated goals The joint Administrative-Faculty Sabbatical Leave Committee shall make its recommendations to the President of the College by April 15th for all sabbatical leaves to occur during the following fall, spring, or summer semesters. The President will report his/her final decision to the Board of Trustees and the successful applicants within thirty calendar days.

Sabbatical Leaves. A. Governing Principles:27.1 A sabbatical leave shall be for purposes that provide a benefit to the CSU, such as research, scholarly and creative activity, instructional improvement or faculty retraining. 127.2 A full-time faculty unit employee shall be eligible for a sabbatical leave if he/she has served full-time for six (6) years at that campus in the preceding seven (7) year period prior to the leave and at least six (6) years after any previous sabbatical leave or difference in pay leave. The application shall include a statement of the purpose of improving the sabbatical, a description of the proposed project and the CSU resources, if any, necessary to carry it out, and a statement of the time requested, which shall not exceed one (1) year. 27.4 Application and response deadlines shall be established by the President after considering recommendations from the Professional Leave Committee. 27.5 A Professional Leave Committee composed of tenured faculty unit employees shall review sabbatical applications. The sabbatical leaves committee shall be elected by probationary and tenured faculty unit employees. A faculty unit employee applying for a sabbatical leave shall not be eligible for election to the Professional Leave Committee. The recommendation ensuing from such a review shall be submitted to the appropriate administrator. This review shall consider questions related to the quality of services the proposed sabbatical project. 27.6 A copy of the application shall be sent to the faculty unit employee's department. The department shall provide a statement to the appropriate administrator regarding the possible effect on the curriculum and the operation of the department should the employee be granted a sabbatical. 27.7 Prior to making a recommendation to the President regarding the sabbatical leave application, the appropriate administrator shall consider the recommendations pursuant to provisions 27.5 and 27.6 above, other campus program needs and campus budget implications. 27.8 Prior to making a final determination regarding the sabbatical leave and the conditions of such an approved leave, the President shall consider the recommendations made pursuant to provisions 27.5, 27.6, and 27.7 above. The President shall respond in writing to the applicant and such a response shall include the reasons for approval or denial. If a sabbatical leave is granted, the response shall include any conditions of such a leave. A copy of this response shall be provided to the constituents of Sauk Valley Community College. A member of affected department and the faculty who is granted such leave may improve services by: a. Engaging in projects or activities that will result in the development of tangible materials that will improve or enhance the faculty member’s assignment at the College; or b. Engaging in informal or formal advanced study selected to improve the faculty member’s competence in his/her assignments at the College or that to expand his/her capabilities to serve the College in a designated area of needProfessional Leave Committee. 2. Sabbatical Leaves are 27.9 Final approval of a sabbatical leave shall not intended to provide opportunities for financial gains. Therefore, applications for Sabbatical Leaves shall include a description of any salaries, grants, or fellowships expected to be received during granted until the leave period. In no case shall a campus grant fewer sabbatical leaves than the number of leaves budgeted for that campus in the 1991-1992 CSU Budget. c. Arrangements may be developed by the department and approved by the President to accommodate granting sabbatical leaves for faculty unit employees whose leaves have been approved. Sabbatical Leaves. A. Governing Principles: 1Normally, sabbatical leaves shall number five each academic year. Sabbatical Leaves At any time during or after the sixth consecutive year of full-time teaching at Oakton Community College (all FMLA leaves and/or any parental leave are excluded from the count of consecutive years), any faculty member may apply for a sabbatical leave. Such a leave may be granted for one semester at full pay, one year at half pay, or for the summer session at a flat rate equal to current summer school contractual salary. The Board of Trustees will set aside funds to provide for such sabbatical leaves, subject to budgetary considerations. The purpose of improving a sabbatical is to improve the quality of services provided to the constituents of Sauk Valley Community College. A member of the faculty who is granted such leave may improve services by: a. Engaging in projects or activities that will result in the development of tangible materials that will improve or enhance the faculty member’s assignment at the College; or b. Engaging in informal or formal advanced study selected to improve services so that both the faculty member’s competence in his/her assignments at member and the College or that to expand his/her capabilities to serve institution benefit from the College in a designated area of need. 2sabbatical experience. The purpose of the sabbatical may be accomplished in any number of ways, singly or in combination, including but not limited to advanced study at an accredited institution in a description major or cognate field, professional research and/or writing, development of any salaries, grantsmaterials pertinent to a field of study, or fellowships expected academic- or subject-related travel. The benefit of granted sabbaticals should extend to be received during the leave period. Following conclusion all areas of the leaveOakton Community College--its procedures and organization, the faculty member shall file a written report with the President or designee of all salaries, grants, or fellowships actually received during the leave period. Following conclusion of the leave, the faculty member shall also prepare and file with the President or designee a report of the Sabbatical in relation to the purposes for which the Sabbatical Leave was requested and granted. Further, the faculty member receiving the Sabbatical Leave shall make an oral report to the Board with specific comment concerning the value of the Sabbatical to the faculty member and the College. Failure to complete the specific purposes of the Sabbatical, the reports to the Presidentits students, and the oral report for the Board within the following semester may result in requiring the community it serves. Any faculty member who receives a sabbatical leave shall: 1. return to reimburse the Oakton Community College for at least one year or repay the compensation money received during the Sabbatical Leave.while on sabbatical leave; 32. Individuals on Sabbatical Leave will receive retain all rights and privileges of facultyfaculty members, including retirement contributions and insurance, and receive salary increments; 3. These rights report documenting progress toward fulfilling the requirements of the sabbatical project; and 4. submit a report to the President within sixty calendar days of returning to work, verifying full compliance with the terms of the sabbatical contract and privileges include full fringe benefits shall submit a duplicate of this report to the Library. If the report is accepted by the President, salary increments shall be awarded. Applications are to be made by a date in March, to be designated by the Committee, for any sabbatical leave that is to occur during the following fall, spring, or summer semesters. Applicants will receive written notification of the acceptance or denial of their sabbatical proposal no later than the last day of the semester in which it was submitted. The joint Administrative-Faculty Sabbatical Leave Committee shall be composed of two faculty members elected from each division and normal progression one administrator appointed by the President. The following criteria will be used to rate proposals: 1. Benefit to the institution 2. Benefit to the professional development of the individual 3. Completeness and thoroughness of the proposal, including appropriate support from within and/or outside the College. If the proposal requires administrative commitment (e.g., large expenditures, new programs, etc.), support from the appropriate administrator must accompany the proposal. 4. Realistic possibility for completion of stated goals The joint Administrative-Faculty Sabbatical Leave Committee shall make its recommendations to the President of the College by April 15th for all sabbatical leaves to occur during the following fall, spring, or summer semesters. The President will report his/her final decision to the Board of Trustees and the successful applicants within thirty calendar days.
