Selection of a Floater. Selection of days off will be determined by the departmental vacation guidelines as to when and how many people can schedule days off. Subject to normal scheduling and workloads, a Floating PRH day is administered by each individual area and is normally left to the discretion of the Manager or Supervisor of the area. The day selected must be in the calendar year the PRH occurs and may not be carried into the following year. However, the day may be selected in advance of, or following the Monday of March School Break, Summer Holiday, or Remembrance Day within the area Vacation Guidelines. The employee must give 10 days’ notice prior to the day for which the holiday falls, in order to be off on the recognized; Monday of March School Break, Summer Holiday, or Remembrance day PRH. If the employee does not give notice, these days will be deemed a regular working day. Such an employee who is eligible to select an alternate day off is allowed to select a maximum of 3 such days in a calendar year. The day selected must be in the calendar year the PRH occurs and may not be carried into the following year. The selection of days off will be made after the unit has completed vacation selections, and will be in order of seniority, i.e. the senior person in a crew will have first choice. The basis of selection will be one day per selection until all earned days have had an opportunity to be scheduled off. Days that are earned due to a Paid Recognized Holiday falling in a week of vacation may be taken off prior to that week of vacation, providing such a selection is consistent with the vacation guidelines. If a non-continuous shift employee works 8 or more hours on a Paid Recognized Holiday and he/she has not already selected the maximum number of 3 Paid Recognized Holidays, he/she may select a day off subsequent to the Paid Recognized Holiday worked. Selection of such day(s) off will be dependent upon availability of such days within the vacation guidelines for the unit. Requests for PRH’s over and above the maximum allowed for vacation do not need to be approved until their last regularly scheduled shift of the previous shift set. However, if possible two weeks’ notice will be given. An employee must be employed on the date of the recognized holiday in order to be eligible for this benefit.
