Sick Leave During Leave of Absence and Layoff. When an employee is given leave of absence with pay for any reason, he shall receive sick leave credit for the period of such absence on his return to work. When an employee is laid off on account of lack of work, he shall not receive sick leave credits for the period of such absence but shall retain his/her cumulative credit, if any, existing at the time of such layoff. An employee who has used up all his sick leave credits and through illness is unable to return to work will be placed on leave of absence, during which period he will not receive pay, vacation service credits, holiday pay or sick leave credits or any clothing or safety footwear allowance but such employee shall continue to accumulate seniority. Such leave of absence shall be limited to a period of twenty-four (24) months. If the employee is unable to return to work upon expiration of the leave of absence, his employment shall be deemed terminated.
