Temporary Reassignment. The Company may temporarily reassign employees to other work such as may be necessary to avoid short layoff and/ or recall. Such reassignment should only be for two periods whether full or part days not to exceed twenty (20) working days and provided: (a) that the Committeepersons for the Zones (Districts) affect- ed are advised in writing prior to effective time of the reassignment of the work conditions and names of the employees involved. (b) that the temporary reassignment shall in no case exceed twenty (20) working days unless an increase is arranged by mutual consent of the Company and a Union Representative for up to an additional ten (10) working days. (iii) Thereafter, the most senior employee within the plant who has recall to that classification will be reassigned for up to twenty (20) working days. Temporary Reassignment. Temporary reassignment provides current employees with the opportunity to gain experience and job skills in the trades or in other occupational areas, which would provide career enhancement. The Company may temporarily reassign program is designed to enable non-trade employees to other work such as may be necessary assigned to avoid short layoff and/ skilled trade positions in the maintenance, grounds, and transportation departments. Additionally, the program provides employees currently working in the trades positions the opportunity to gain experience, which will enable them to be promoted or recalladvanced or cross trained in the maintenance, grounds and transportation departments. Lastly, the program provides the opportunity for employees to gain experience in the custodial department positions of Custodian 2 and Custodial Crew Leader. Temporary reassignment in the custodial positions shall only be available to those employees who do not currently hold a permanent position in the classification to which they wish to be temporarily reassigned. The Union President shall be provided a copy of the temporary reassignment lists and shall be provided notice of any changes to the lists. If there is to be a substitute for two periods whether full or part days not to exceed more than twenty (20) working days in any of the positions covered by the temporary assignment program, that position is eligible for a person on a temporary reassignment. Further, any position covered by the program which has a substitute for ten (10) or more working days will be reviewed by Classified Personnel to determine the ending date of the substitute. (i) in the event of a downward reassignment to which there are employees surplus and employed in other classifica- tions within the plant, the reassignment will occur as fol- lows: (i) No employee will be declared surplus during the per- iod which another employee is Temporary assigned returned to his/her job classification or during a corresponding period of time following such regular assignment. A temporary assignment. (ii) Downward reassignments will reassignment shall not exceed twenty six (206) working daysmonths. No individual shall receive more than two (2) temporary reassignments in a fiscal year unless no other employee is available or willing to assume a temporary reassignment opportunity. In the event that an employee works a temporary reassignment the employee shall be compensated as follows: If the employee works a temporary reassignment in a position which is compensated at a salary range which is the same as or more than the employee’s permanent assignment, the employee shall be paid no less than his/her normal salary plus an additional five percent (5%) or the first step of the classification which the employee works, whichever is greater, for all work performed in the temporary reassignment. If the employee works a temporary reassignment in a position which is compensated at a salary range which is less than the employee’s permanent assignment, the employee shall be paid at the same step which the employee currently holds but in the range which is applicable to the work of the temporary reassignment.
