Unpaid Leave - Union Business. ‌ (a) Short-term leave of absence without pay to a maximum of fourteen (14) days at one time shall be granted to employees designated by the Union to transact Union business including conventions and conferences unless this would unduly interrupt the operation of the department provided, however, that these designated employees shall be paid by the Employer for time lost in attending meetings during working hours whenever their attendance is requested by the Employer. (e) Every effort will be made by the Employer to retain employees on unpaid leave of absence for Union business on the Employer’s payroll and where such employees are retained, the Union shall reimburse the Employer for salary and benefit costs within thirty (30) days of receipt of the wages and benefits involvedinvoice. It is understood that employees granted leave of absence pursuant to this clause shall receive their current rate of pay while on leave of absence. Leave of absence granted under this clause shall include sufficient travel time. This provision does not apply to employees on extended leaves of absence who are employed by the Union on a regular permanent full-time basis. c) The Union shall provide the Employer with reasonable notice to minimize disruption of the operation and shall make every reasonable effort to give a minimum of fourteen (14) days’ notice prior to the commencement of leave under (a) above. The Employer agrees that any of the above leaves of absence shall not be unreasonably withheld.

The pay and benefits involvedreceived by the employee and reimbursed by the Union under this article shall be based on the number of hours to which the Union indicates, in writing, the employee is entitled. This provision does not apply to employees on extended leaves of absence who are employed by the Union on a regular full-full- time basis. (d) The Union shall provide the Employer with reasonable notice to minimize disruption of the operation and shall make every reasonable effort to give a minimum of fourteen (14) days’ notice prior to the commencement of leave under (a) or (b) above. The Employer agrees that any of the above leaves of absence shall not be unreasonably withheld. The employer shall respond to the request within seven (7) calendar days and provide a copy of the Leave of Absence form to the employee.

It is understood that employees granted leave of absence pursuant to this clause shall receive their current rates of pay, all benefits and benefits involvedseniority while on leave of absence. This provision does not apply to employees on extended leaves of absence who are employed by the Union on a regular full-time permanent basis, and cannot exceed 18 months.

Unpaid Leave - Union Business. ‌ (aA) Short-term leave of absence without pay to a maximum of fourteen (14) days at one time shall be granted to employees designated by the Union to transact Union business including conventions and conferences unless this would unduly interrupt the operation of the department provided, however, that these designated employees shall be paid by the Employer for time lost in attending meetings during working hours whenever their attendance is requested by the Employer. In requesting such leaves of absence, the Union will give the Employer 14 days' written notice. (e) Every effort will be made by the Employer to retain employees on unpaid leave of absence for Union business on the Employer’s payroll and where such employees are retained, the Union shall reimburse the Employer for salary and benefit costs, within sixty (60) days of receipt of the wages invoice. It is understood that employees granted leave of absence pursuant to this clause shall receive their current rate of pay while on leave of absence. The pay and benefits involvedreceived by the employee and reimbursed by the Union under this article shall be based on the number of hours to which the Union indicates, in writing, the employee is entitled. Seniority given with pay and all benefits shall accumulate during such leave. (d) The foregoing provisions shall not limit the provisions of Article 5.10, 9.01, 9.02, 9.03, 11.05, 11.06, 12.01, 12. (e) Every effort will be made by the Employer to retain employees on unpaid leave of absence for Union business on the Employer’s payroll and where such employees are retained, the Union shall reimburse the Employer for salary and benefit costs, within sixty (60) days of receipt of the wages invoice. It is understood that employees granted leave of absence pursuant to this clause shall receive their current rate of pay while on leave of absence. The pay and benefits involvedreceived by the employee and reimbursed by the Union under this article shall be based on the number of hours to which the Union indicates, in writing, the employee is entitled. In addition, the time taken as Union Leave under this article, shall count as time worked towards Statutory Holiday pay calculation as per Article 25.01. This provision does not apply to employees on extended leaves of absence who are employed by the Union on a regular permanent full-time basis. (d) The Union shall provide the Employer with reasonable notice to minimize disruption of the operation and shall make every reasonable effort to give a minimum of fourteen (14) days’ notice prior to the commencement of leave under (a) or (b) above. Unpaid Leave - Union Business. ‌ (aA) Short-term leave Leave of absence without pay to a maximum and without loss of seniority shall be granted with fourteen (14) days at one time written notice for the purposes listed below. This will include parent (or alternatively, step-parent or xxxxxx-parent), spouse or common law spouse, child, step-child, brother, sister, father-in-law, mother-in-law, grandparent, grandchild, legal guardian, xxxx and relative permanently residing in the employee’s household or with whom the employee permanently resides. Such compassionate leave will be granted to employees who are on extended other paid leaves of absence who are employed by including sick leave and annual vacations. When compassionate leave of absence with pay is granted, any concurrent paid leave credits used will be restored. Compassionate leave of absence with pay will not apply when an employee is on an unpaid leave of absence. Leave for Public Office Employees will be granted unpaid leave of absence to enable them to run for elected Public Office, and if elected, to serve their of office. Every effort will be made to comply with such requests, providing that replacements to ensure proper operation of the Union on a regular full-time basiscan be found.
