Unpaid Leave - Union Business. (a) Short-term leave of absence without pay to a maximum of fourteen (14) days at one time shall be granted to employees designated by the Union to transact Union business including conventions and conferences unless this would unduly interrupt the operation of the department provided, however, that these designated employees shall be paid by the Employer for time lost in attending meetings during working hours whenever their attendance is requested by the Employer. (d) The foregoing provisions shall not limit the provisions of Article 5.10, 9.01, 9.02, 9.03, 11.05, 11.06, 12.01, 12.
(e) Every effort will be made by the Employer to retain employees on unpaid leave of absence for Union business on the Employer’s payroll and where such employees are retained, the Union shall reimburse the Employer for salary and benefit costs within thirty (30) days of receipt of the wages and benefits involvedinvoice. It is understood that employees granted leave of absence pursuant to this clause shall receive their current rate of pay while on leave of absence. Leave of absence granted under this clause shall include sufficient travel time. This provision does not apply to employees on extended leaves of absence who are employed by the Union on a regular permanent full-time basis.
c) The Union shall provide the Employer with reasonable notice to minimize disruption of the operation and shall make every reasonable effort to give a minimum of fourteen (14) days’ notice prior to the commencement of leave under (a) above. The Employer agrees that any of the above leaves of absence shall not be unreasonably withheld.

(4) For employees designated by who are representatives of the Union to transact Union business including conventions and conferences unless this would unduly interrupt the operation of the department provided, however, that these designated employees shall be paid by the Employer for time lost in attending meetings during working hours whenever their attendance is requested by the Employer. The Union shall give reasonable notice to minimize disruption of the department and the Union shall make every effort to give on a minimum of seven (7) days’ noticebargaining committee.

Leave of absence granted under this clause shall include sufficient travel time. The pay and benefits involvedreceived by the employee and reimbursed by the Union under this article shall be based on the number of hours to which the Union indicates, in writing, the employee is entitled. This provision does not apply to employees on extended leaves of absence who are employed by the Union on a regular full-full- time basis.
(d) The Union shall provide the Employer with reasonable notice to minimize disruption of the operation and shall make every reasonable effort to give a minimum of fourteen (14) days’ notice prior to the commencement of leave under (a) or (b) above. The Employer agrees that any of the above leaves of absence shall not be unreasonably withheld. The employer shall respond to the request within seven (7) calendar days and provide a copy of the Leave of Absence form to the employee.

This provision does not apply to employees on extended leaves of absence who are employed by the Union on a regular full-time permanent basis, and cannot exceed 18 months.

It is understood that employees granted leave of absence pursuant to this clause shall receive their current rate of pay while on leave of absence. Leave of absence granted under this clause shall include sufficient travel time. This provision does not apply to employees on extended leaves of absence who are employed by the Union on a regular permanent full-time basis.
(c) The Union shall provide the Employer with reasonable notice to minimize disruption of the operation and shall make every reasonable effort to give a minimum of fourteen (14) days’ notice prior to the commencement of leave under (a) above. (a) Short-term leave Leave of absence without pay to a maximum and without loss of fourteen (14) days at one time seniority shall be granted with 14 days written notice for the purposes listed below. Such leave shall be subject to operational requirements and shall not be unreasonably withheld:
(1) to an elected or appointed representative of the Union to attend conventions of the Union and bodies to which the Union is affiliated;

(e) Every effort will be made by the Employer to retain employees on unpaid leave of absence for Union business on the Employer’s payroll and where such employees are retained, the Union shall reimburse the Employer for the wages absent employee’s wage and benefit costs, including sufficient travel time incurred, within sixty (60) days of receipt of the invoice. The pay and benefits involvedreceived by the employee and reimbursed by the Union under this Article shall be based on the number of hours to which the Union indicates, in writing, the employee is entitled. (a) Short-term Leave of absence without pay and without loss of seniority shall be granted within five days of the written request notice for the purposes listed below. In requesting such leaves of absence, the Union will give the Employer 14 days' written notice. Such leave shall be subject to operational requirements and shall not be unreasonably withheld:
(1) to an elected or appointed representative of the Union to attend conventions of the Union and bodies to which the Union is affiliated;
(2) for elected or appointed representatives of the Union to attend to union business which requires them to leave their general work area;
(3) to employees called by the Union to appear as witnesses before an arbitration board or the Labour Relations Board of BC or the Human Rights Tribunal, provided the dispute involves the Employer; or
(4) to employees representing the Union in collective bargaining.
(b) When on leave of absence without pay to a maximum of fourteen (14) days at one time pay, the leave shall be granted to employees designated by the Union to transact Union business including conventions and conferences unless this would unduly interrupt the operation of the department provided, however, that these designated employees shall be paid by the Employer for time lost in attending meetings during working hours whenever their attendance is requested by the Employer. The Union shall give reasonable notice to minimize disruption of the department given with pay and the Union shall make every effort reimburse the Employer for salary, benefit, RRSP, prorated sick leave credits and prorated vacation costs, including travel time incurred, within 60 days of receipt of the invoice. It is understood that employees granted leave of absence pursuant to give a minimum this clause shall receive their current rates of seven (7) days’ noticepay while on leave of absence and the intent is not to disadvantage employees while utilizing this leave. (bc) Long-term leave of absence without pay shall be granted to employees designated by the Union to transact Union union business for specific periods of not less than fourteen (14) days unless this would unduly interrupt the operation of the departmentperiods. Such requests shall be made in writing sufficiently in advance to minimize disruption of the departmentwriting. Employees granted such leave of absence shall retain all rights and privileges with no loss of seniority accumulated prior to obtaining such leave. Long-term leave of absence without pay and without loss of seniority shall be granted:
(1) for employees selected for a full-time position with the Union for a period of one year;
(2) for an employee elected to the position of president or treasurer of the B.C. General Employees' Union;
(3) for an employee elected to any body to which the Union is affiliated for a period of one year. Seniority shall continue to accumulate during such leave and shall apply to such provisions as annual vacationsvacation, increments and promotions.

(c) Leave of absence without pay shall be granted to employees designated by the Union for the purpose of collective bargaining. Seniority and all benefits shall accumulate during such leave.
(d) The foregoing provisions shall not limit the provisions of Article 5.108.01, 9.018.02, 9.028.03, 9.039.04, 11.05, 11.069.05, 12.01, 1212.02, 50.01.
(e) Every effort will be made by the Employer to retain employees on unpaid leave of absence for Union business on the Employer’s 's payroll and where such employees are retained, the Union shall reimburse the Employer for the wages and benefits involved. This provision does not apply to employees on extended leaves of absence who are employed by the Union on a regular full-time basis.

In addition, the time taken as Union Leave under this article, shall count as time worked towards Statutory Holiday pay calculation as per Article 24.01. (e) Every effort will be made by the Employer to retain employees on unpaid leave of absence for Union business on the Employer’s payroll and where such employees are retained, the Union shall reimburse the Employer for salary and benefit costs, including travel time incurred, within sixty (60) days of receipt of the wages invoice. It is understood that employees granted leave of absence pursuant to this Clause shall receive their current rate of pay while on leave of absence. Leave of absence granted under this Clause shall include sufficient travel time. The pay and benefits involvedreceived by the employee and reimbursed by the Union under this Article shall be based on the number of hours to which the Union indicates, in writing, the employee is entitled. This provision does not apply to employees on extended leaves of absence who are employed by the Union on a regular permanent full-time basis.
(d) The Union shall provide the Employer with reasonable notice to minimize disruption of the operation and shall make every reasonable effort to give a minimum of fourteen (14) days' notice prior to the commencement of leave under (a) or (b) above. (c) Leave To facilitate the administration of absence Section (a) and (b), when leave without pay is granted, the leave shall be granted to employees designated by the Union for the purpose of collective bargaining. Seniority given with basic pay and all benefits shall accumulate during such leave.
(d) The foregoing provisions shall not limit the provisions of Article 5.10, 9.01, 9.02, 9.03, 11.05, 11.06, 12.01, 12.
(e) Every effort will be made by the Employer to retain employees on unpaid leave of absence for Union business on the Employer’s payroll and where such employees are retained, the Union shall reimburse the Employer for the wages appropriate compensation costs, including travel time, incurred. It is understood that employees granted leave of absence pursuant to this clause shall receive their current rates of pay, all benefits and benefits involvedseniority while on leave of absence. This provision does not apply to employees on extended leaves of absence who are employed by the Union on a regular full-time permanent basis, and cannot exceed 18 months.

Leave of absence granted under this clause shall include sufficient travel time. The pay and benefits involvedreceived by the employee and reimbursed by the Union under this article shall be based on the number of hours to which the Union indicates, in writing, the employee is entitled. This provision does not apply to employees on extended leaves of absence who are employed by the Union on a regular permanent full-time basis.
(d) The Union shall provide the Employer with reasonable notice to minimize disruption of the operation and shall make every reasonable effort to give a minimum of fourteen (14) days’ notice prior to the commencement of leave under (a) or (b) above. (1) to an elected or appointed representative of the Union to attend conventions of the Union and bodies to which the Union is affiliated, to a maximum of fourteen twenty-one (1421) days at one time per occurrence;
(2) for elected or appointed representatives of the Union to attend to Union business which requires them to leave their general work area;
(3) members of the Provincial Executive of the Union shall be granted leave of absence to attend the regular meetings of such Executive;
(4) for employees designated by who are representatives of the Union to transact Union business including conventions and conferences unless this would unduly interrupt the operation of the department provided, however, that these designated employees shall be paid by the Employer for time lost in attending meetings during working hours whenever their attendance is requested by the Employer. The Union shall give reasonable notice to minimize disruption of the department and the Union shall make every effort to give on a minimum of seven (7) days’ noticeBargaining Committee.
(b) Long-Long term leave of absence without pay shall be granted to employees designated by the Union to transact Union business for specific periods of not less than fourteen twenty-one (1421) days unless this would unduly interrupt the operation of the department. Such requests shall be made in writing sufficiently in advance to minimize disruption of the department. Employees granted such leave of absence shall retain all rights and privileges accumulated prior to obtaining such leave. Seniority shall continue to accumulate during such leave and shall apply to such provisions as annual vacations, increments and promotions.
(c) Leave When leave of absence without pay is granted pursuant to part (a) or (b), the leave shall be granted to employees designated by the Union for the purpose of collective bargaining. Seniority given with pay and all benefits shall accumulate during such leave.
(d) The foregoing provisions shall not limit the provisions of Article 5.10, 9.01, 9.02, 9.03, 11.05, 11.06, 12.01, 12.
(e) Every effort will be made by the Employer to retain employees on unpaid leave of absence for Union business on the Employer’s payroll and where such employees are retained, the Union shall reimburse the Employer for salary and benefit costs, within sixty (60) days of receipt of the wages invoice. It is understood that employees granted leave of absence pursuant to this clause shall receive their current rate of pay while on leave of absence. The pay and benefits involvedreceived by the employee and reimbursed by the Union under this article shall be based on the number of hours to which the Union indicates, in writing, the employee is entitled. In addition, the time taken as Union Leave under this article, shall count as time worked towards Statutory Holiday pay calculation as per Article
25.01. This provision does not apply to employees on extended leaves of absence who are employed by the Union on a regular permanent full-time basis.
(d) The Union shall provide the Employer with reasonable notice to minimize disruption of the operation and shall make every reasonable effort to give a minimum of fourteen (14) days’ notice prior to the commencement of leave under (a) or (b) above. The Employer agrees that any of the above leaves of absence shall not be unreasonably withheld.

B) To facilitate the operation administration of Article 3.07
(A) Unpaid Leave – Union Business when leave without pay is granted, the department provided, however, that these designated employees leave shall be paid by the Employer for time lost in attending meetings during working hours whenever their attendance is requested by the Employer. The Union shall give reasonable notice to minimize disruption of the department given with basic pay and the Union shall make every effort reimburse the Employer for appropriate compensation costs, including travel time, incurred. It is understood that employees granted leave of absence pursuant to give a minimum this Article shall receive their current rates of seven pay while on leave of absence. The Union agrees to reimburse the Employer within one (71) days’ noticemonth of receipt of billing from the Employer.
(bC) Long-term leave of absence without pay shall be granted to employees designated by the Union to transact Union union business for specific periods of not less than fourteen (14) days unless this would unduly interrupt the operation of the departmentperiods. Such requests shall be made in writing sufficiently in advance to minimize disruption of the departmentwriting. Employees granted such leave of absence shall retain all rights and privileges with no loss of seniority accumulated prior to obtaining such leave. Leave of absence granted under this clause shall include sufficient travel time. The pay and benefits received by the employee and reimbursed by the Union under this article shall be based on the number of hours to which the Union indicates, in writing, the employee is entitled. Seniority shall continue to accumulate during such leave and shall apply to such provisions as annual vacation entitlement, increments and promotions.
(bc) Long-term leave of absence without pay shall be granted to employees designated by the Union to transact Union union business for specific periods of not less than fourteen (14) days unless this would unduly interrupt the operation of the departmentperiods. This provision does not apply Compassionate leave of absence of three (3) days with pay shall be granted to employees upon application to the Employer in the event of death of a member of the employee’s immediate family. This will include parent (or alternatively, step-parent or xxxxxx-parent), spouse or common law spouse, child, step-child, brother, sister, father-in-law, mother-in-law, grandparent, grandchild, legal guardian, xxxx and relative permanently residing in the employee’s household or with whom the employee permanently resides. Such compassionate leave will be granted to employees who are on extended other paid leaves of absence who are employed by including sick leave and annual vacations. When compassionate leave of absence with pay is granted, any concurrent paid leave credits used will be restored. Compassionate leave of absence with pay will not apply when an employee is on an unpaid leave of absence. Leave for Public Office Employees will be granted unpaid leave of absence to enable them to run for elected Public Office, and if elected, to serve their of office. Every effort will be made to comply with such requests, providing that replacements to ensure proper operation of the Union on a regular full-time basiscan be found.
