Verbal Counseling. Verbal counseling is an informal level of corrective action. Verbal counseling is not disciplinary action. Verbal counseling is not grievable. It is a warning given by an immediate supervisor in conference with an employee in which the matter is discussed with the employee. The employee will be advised what action is expected of him or her to correct the problem.
Verbal Counseling. An opportunity to communicate in a non-punitive fashion that a problem is perceived and that the supervisor is available to help solve it. This action cannot be appealed.

Verbal Counseling a method (non disciplinary action) used to inform employee of unsatisfactory work performance or unacceptable conduct as well as the expectations for avoiding future occurrences. The supervisor normally holds a private meeting with the employee following the performance or conduct at issue. The verbal counseling is not subject to the grievance procedures.
